Pay increases less than COLA, performance reviews are flawed
Pros
It’s a pay cheque and pays the bills
Cons
Quota based forced stack ranking aka “re-introduce normal distribution” after performance review submitted. Aka rank and yank. Aka the Jack Welsh method. By design, Subordinates do not align with manager prior to submission of performance reviews. Rank determines pay increase. COLA is not given automatically. Expect 1%. For real. Internal transfers capped at 15%. You can get a better increase if you quit and are rehired at the higher rate. You lose seniority for severance and vacation though. Max 5 years vacation after 20 years. 4 years after 10 years. Corporate jobs do not pay overtime. Time off in lieu, if you can get it. IT workers especially work a lot of hours with no extra pay. Monetary $100 awards are vanishing. Words and recognition “matter more”. Finally got a decent bonus after many years. Otherwise, expect little. It’s not what you know, it is who you know. Ideally someone in the McCain family. Get promised training and then told there is no time or budget.
