Do NOT Recommend for Artists

Pros

Decent pay & compensation, Nice co-workers (non-management)

Cons

This place is you typical small team micromanaging model. From an artist point of view, we have to face a boss that doesn't understand anything about art but tries to use his personal "feelings" to art direct. The short time I worked there, we constantly changed project directions, color palettes, character designs on a daily/weekly basis. The upper management is very paranoid and clueless most of the time, so they try to make art changes, and asks you to work long hours without pay. I don't think they are bad people in any way, they just need to be able to trust an art director and let the artists do what they are hired for. I agree with the above. During the interview, they would render the company to be this new, young, quirky place for young people to grow their career. It's NOT! I won't recommend any young artists because they are just trying to take advantage of your inexperience in work environment and your passion for a new job. People are attracted by all the talk at the interview and would quit in months. I only know 1 or 2 people, other than management that stayed for more than 1 year.

Great people, great product, CEO is the sole point of failure

Pros

- the actual team on the ground are amazing people - friendly, welcoming and talented - the product and the product's mission is great

Cons

- the CEO. Justin is not a CEO and definitely can't be a CMO, CTO, Head of Product, Project Manager, Head of Production and Creative Director which is what he is currently trying to be. His communication style is rude and impulsive, often resulting in employees being offended. He has no respect for anyone in the organisation and does not trust anyone other than himself, hence the extremely high staff turnover. He is unable to commit to anything, resulting in ever changing product direction and deadlines - this is unsustainable and a huge waste of money for the business, and means employees are constantly frustrated. - the office location and layout is not conducive to productivity - a move has been on the cards for over a year but due to Justin's lack of ability to commit to anything still has not happened

MarcoPolo Learning Response

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. We value and take all feedback seriously at MarcoPolo Learning. Our company has just closed a large round of funding led by one of the most respected education companies in the world. As part of this new phase of the business which is scaling up for significant growth, management has set out to improve operational efficiencies within various areas of the business and that has caused some uncertainty. Although we have done everything we can to make this a smooth transition, unfortunately some people have been impacted. We value all our staff and feel our workforce is engaged and happy with the direction of the business. As an Emmy-nominated producer of TV grade kids education, our mission is to elevate the quality of educational content for home and school across the world. We suggest that any potential new hires reach out to someone on our staff for their perspective of the business and the impact we are having on young learners.
