Engineers Beware

Recommend

Business outlook

Pros

Lots of open positions (because everyone is quitting due to toxic management)

Cons

Management flips so much they should start a gymnastics team. The fourth manager they hired for my former department (in as many years) poisoned the well. This person drove a department of six down to a department of one in a little over a year; purely through poor leadership, disrespect, and zero accountability. This person could do no wrong in the eyes of upper management and all the engineering employees suffered the consequences. Marel has turned into a joke. If you want medium pay, poor benefits, no room to move up, and no raises, jump aboard!

Pros

They throw you a chicken biscuit once in a while, but you better only take a minute to eat it and get back to work.

Cons

You're pretty much stuck where you are, the spot you're in is the spot you're in. Good-old-boy network. They pretend to care about their people, but when it comes down to brass tacks you're just another number on the roster for them to toss out when they're done with you. Regardless of how many years you put in or how hard you worked. This company is on the uptick but they won't reinvest the profits into their employees. Greedy. Medical insurance is horrible, overtime is limited because they're cheap, they expect miracles on last minute jobs though, straight time. Merit increases are a joke, I used to work at places where 8-10% was common, here you're lucky to get 2%. That stunt they pulled with "realigning the pay periods" was a great week, we all worked for free! Morale is horrible, they expect miracles from everyone yet they don't give you the right tools or support to do the job. There is zero accountability anywhere and when something goes wrong people just shrug and don't seem to care. On to the next disaster project. The system is broken and they keep putting bandaids on stuff that just breaks something else, then they wonder why everything is broken. We're "essential" but aren't treated like we are. During covid, they were real quick to throw you out when you had a sniffle, but only pay you one round of PTO for it. And if they think you were near someone who might have been near someone who might have been near someone who had a false positive, the next round of quarantine was on you. No pay...symptoms or not. They only follow the science that fits their desired narrative. Anything to save a dollar.
