Pros

Remote work and flexitime. You have the autonomy to manage your own desk, set and meet your own targets (within reason). All of the staff at MA are easy going and great people. They host regular social events to get everyone together and it is always a fun day out. Great gender diversity across all areas of the business. Committees and clubs are set up within the business to allow staff to connect further and suggest changes.

Cons

Lack of transparency from management, despite expecting this from their staff. This company was a real life lesson that employees are just that, outside of your job you will not be seen as a real person in their eyes. They are lacking the emotional intelligence to have empathy or sympathy for peoples personal responsibilities. It is 100% business, they will lead you to believe otherwise. In my last few months there was a severe lack of contact with management, 1:1s were not happening or being rescheduled despite my effort to do so. During my time I was encouraged to bring new ideas and solutions to problems. When I found these and brought them to management I was further encouraged to act on them, to later be scolded for doing so. In the process belittling me into thinking I was stupid for following this line of action. After months of praise for my hard work and commitment to the role my intelligence was questioned along my understanding of the role. It was very demeaning and disheartening. You would expect better from mature 'professionals'. My experience at Mason Alexander has made me rethink my career path going forward, this industry is known for being toxic and shamefully the management seems to have absorbed this stereotypical trait. My last review with the company resulted in high praise, and a pay increase leading me to believe I was excelling at this role and meeting the expectations. The next and final meeting in this category was a cold call on a Friday morning to tell me my position had been terminated due to "changes in the business needs". Despite hiring on the team 2 months prior. I aided in the training of my replacement without realising. Cold and callous. Avoid at all costs. No amount of perks, remote working, four hour Friday (work your hours up during the week), social activities is worth this level of disloyalty. While your gender diversity is great, it is time to think about hiring outside of white people. When I look around my workplace I would like it to reflect the streets I walk through on the daily. It is 2024.
