Pros

A positive for working here is a paycheck, and most of the hourly employees are great.

Cons

If you have self-worth or feel like you are doing well at your job, management will find a way to make sure you don't feel that way ever again. Open door policy is great if you want a target on your back. Senior management has been heard on multiple occasion yelling at employees about the horrible job they are doing so the whole department can hear. Senior management throws tantrums in meetings like a toddler. HR and CEO have been told about it and have done absolutely nothing about it. If you have self-worth or feel that you are performing well at your job, management will inevitably find a way to undermine that confidence. The open door policy may seem beneficial, but it often places a target on your back. If you want to be promoted here, you better be BFF's with the upper management. They only promote people that align with what they say. Raises are minimal, 3% or less and you expected to be grateful.

Pros

Coworkers, benefits and vacation time

Cons

Maui Jim was once an exceptional workplace, known for its camaraderie and a culture rooted in the Aloha Spirit. Since the 2022 acquisition, however, the environment has changed—especially for those in operations and management. Increased expectations from leadership have gradually impacted all levels of the organization. Many employees are now handling more responsibilities without corresponding changes in compensation. In some cases, job scopes have expanded considerably. Job titles may not fully reflect the scope of work. For example, warehouse team members often perform multiple functions which makes consistency challenging—especially as processes evolve frequently and some SOPs still need to be written or updated. Performance expectations have risen significantly. Even those who previously exceeded targets may find new benchmarks difficult to meet, which can affect morale. The workplace feels more task-focused than collaborative, and we are left feeling disconnected. Due to ongoing staffing challenges, mandatory overtime has become more common. The demand on existing staff has led to burnout, and several experienced employees have left the company. Support from HR has been limited, without communication and minimal in-person presence. This can leave employees feeling like their concerns aren’t being addressed in a timely manner. Overall, the unique culture that once set Maui Jim apart feels less present. Since leadership changes, the experience for both long-term and new employees has shifted, and workloads have increased. This review reflects the workplace environment as it stands today. Prospective employees may want to consider how recent changes align with their expectations.

Pros

I worked at Maui Jim for just about a year in 2022-23. It's filled with fantastic people and there are opportunities for at least lateral moves. The employees are, by and large, very warm and welcoming; the atmosphere is filled with Aloha; the opportunity to work from home was absolutely there. One of my great regrets is losing this job due to some personal, unresolved issues... but MJ gave me every opportunity they could to get myself in order. I would absolutely go back there.

Cons

Upward mobility is a little difficult, as most of management seems pretty content to stay.
