Pros

Great place if you are new starting out of school. You will have a lot of responsibility and learn a lot. Stay there for a year, get the experience and leave as soon as you can.

Cons

Awful company culture, family run company with no way to move up. They funnel all the profits and funds towards the higher ups and give no raises or bonus to other employees. Micromanaging work culture, there is no repect or trust amonst upper management and employees. HR is very close to the CEO, so there is no chance you will get any problems or issues solved. Overall very unhealthy work culture.

Family Business Management Disaster

Pros

- Probably for entry level interior designers to gain experience - not much long hours

Cons

I'm surprised this company is still operating. Last time I heard they went bankrupt, closed down their main office, and ran their business under a different legal name at their warehouse in Richmond Hill. This company indeed moved a few times, downsized significantly over a few years. I can't tell why people still work for this company. When I worked there it was proven to be a complete disaster. They started firing people for no apparent reason and forced other employees to take on more duties irrelevant to their positions. Since the management was not very transparent about their financial status, no one knew what was going on, and there was high level of anxiety about who's going to go next. It has become more and more clear they are having problems when there was no more major jobs coming in and more people were let go. In terms of culture it wasn't quite healthy. Some staff in sales, admin, etc. were very unprofessional and gossipy and the management displayed favoritism.

Pros

Make you feel like you a part of something bigger.

Cons

I should have listened to the advice from other in the industry, get in and get out. Use this job as a stepping stone. Mayhew values themselves as a family oriented company but their values have changed. They do not compensate fairly and are not accommodating to those with any form of disability. They can talk the talk but fall short when they have to follow through. I questioned the ethics while employed there and regretted not saying something when I was asked to complete tasks that would give them an unfair advantage.
