No particular cons. The office is lovely but can feel a bit detached.

Pros

Nice office, looks good on CV

Cons

Working at McCann Manchester is like owning a boat. There are two good days, the day you join and the day you leave.

Pros

Despite the ever-mounting list of cons, there are some genuinely nice people that work here. That, and if you're more bothered about sounding impressive to friends than having good mental health, you also get to say you work at McCann...

Cons

Where to start. This is honestly the worst, and probably the weirdest place I have ever worked. On the face of it, it's McCann - they work with big brands, they do some cool work - the people seem nice. But the reality (maybe its just the Birmingham office as I can only speak on that and would like to think they're not all the same) is a place that feels stuck in the past, with antiquated software, a dusty old laptop you're handed to work on, a subpar benefits package, too many processes to keep a handle on and more meetings than time. Beyond all of that, its not a welcoming place to be either. Most of the senior staff have an air of arrogance about them that creates a very clear division between seniors and the rest of the business. There's a vibe of either being 'in' the clique, or not. And then to be fair, outside of a few genuinely lovely people, the rest of the team aren't particularly welcoming either. I was working alongside one member of staff and after trying and failing to make conversation with her at the start of a few meetings, I decided I just wouldn't say anything, and we both sat there in silence until the rest of the team arrived. I had the feeling that maybe everyone was just dreadfully unhappy there too (some people told me as much!) Like I say, an odd place to be. An office on an industrial estate with a well known name, but inside its normal to hear stories of people being made to cry, getting signed off due to stress or quitting. If that sounds appealing, go for it. But if you value work life balance, feeling good about your work and being happy Mon-Fri, I'd personally recommend avoiding this place.
