Menlo Church was by far the most unhealthy workplace I have ever experienced. The leadership team is unqualified, leading not with vision or encouragement, but through threats and ultimatums. Your job security feels entirely conditional—one wrong step or disagreement and you’re on the chopping block.
There is no work-life balance. Overtime is treated as a “spiritual act of worship” to the church, and there’s an unspoken expectation that your personal life will always take a back seat to the demands of the job. Leadership checks staff giving reports to see if you are tithing, and this is tied to whether you are considered “in good standing” as an employee—an inappropriate and manipulative practice.
Flexibility is nonexistent. Leadership often assumes the worst of staff, constantly making you feel like you’re not doing enough, no matter how much you give. During my time there, over 30+ employees were terminated or laid off, creating an ongoing climate of fear and instability.
If you value your mental health, personal boundaries, or healthy leadership, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.
