Pros

Most of the coworkers seem to be decent genuine people but not all. Learning opportunity.

Cons

Management lacks the fundamental knowledge of what they're doing and lacks the desire to put in any effort to do anything. Yet they expect employees to work harder than they do and don't recognize the employees who are working hard. The company doesn't seem to have an excellent foreseeable future. They are more focused on becoming profitable than they are on the employees making everything happen. Frustrating place to work.

Pros

100% remote, good benefits, and opportunity for travel (some employees)

Cons

This place is the same as it has always been - a revolving door. Management is very experienced in their line of work. However, that expertise does not automatically make them good managers or leaders. They have tons of knowledge but lack essential leadership skills, which sets their team up to fail. There is no support, training, feedback, involvement, or honesty. My direct manager once said to me, "I don't know how to lead better on this" and a VP's form of nurturing growth by "teaching" is taking your work and doing it for you, without explanation. It's unsettling and shows how little they care about the employees. My experience with them overall was fairly negative and continues to be so, despite how long it's been since I worked with them. Not only did I find out that was I hired under false pretenses, but they also tried to convert me to a 1099-contractor after I spent time there as a salaried employee. It's a little ironic that this is an anti-fraud organization, yet their practices and culture are dishonest.

Pros

Most of the staff was great to work with and really supportive of each other - however most of them have quit now so I can't speak for the current crew. The MRC is very good at being flexible with work hours and schedule, including allowing some work to be done from home. The pay is competitive and, while located in a dreary basement office (although there are some windows), being located in the Wallingford neighborhood was nice. There was plenty of street parking and lots of yummy places to go for lunch.

Cons

Out of a current office of 8 (until recently there were only 6) the MRC has seen the turnover of 6 people in the past year alone. That number becomes quite larger if previous years are considered. I have known the majority of these people and although each has their own set of reasons for leaving, one overarching theme in their decision to leave was the great difficulty they encountered working with one particular person in a position of power within the organization. My experience with this person was also negative and was a major contributing factor in my decision to leave the organization. It is unfortunate that one person can so negatively effect the work environment of a potentially great organization, but since this is such a small office and the new upper management has not addressed the problem, it really does make for an unpleasant work environment. Upper management is distant and not particularly involved in the day-to-day operations, which in a larger organization would be fine, but in an office of 8 you need to talk to your employees and be somewhat involved. The distance of management and lack of positive reinforcement contributes to the low moral of the staff. This organization really has the potential to be great, but there will have to be a major shift in culture and management in order for that to happen.
