      Culture of Fear and Toxicity. DO NOT FALL INTO THIS TRAP! Look Elsewhere!

      - Being a small company allows for agility and potential for innovation* (if capitalized upon) - There is potential here if an experienced CEO is brought in, and employees are listened to and respected.

      Cons

      Please read to save yourself from working here, as someone who was tenured long enough here to oversee employees: - When employees are first hired here many are asked within the FIRST week to leave a glassdoor review... which is why there are so many positive reviews here (this also allows them to keep track of who leaves reviews, employees have been called into offices to investigate who left a negative review). In job hiring interviews (which I was on both sides of while I was there) much of the "hype" and attributes about the company and culture is very misleading and often direct lies misrepresenting what Monkedia is as a company with intent to lure new hires in. Honestly and authenticity is something that is greatly lacking here. - The biggest red flag here is: ALL of leadership/management are friends or friends of friends (relationships prior to the start of the company) of the CEO/Owner who has 100% ownership in Monkedia. This is why there has been many many many failed attempts at employees trying to create change. However, when one person has complete control and are surrounded by friends/yes-men. It make sense why there has not been any change, and why so many high-level and respected employees have quit. - Culture, culture, culture... the workplace environment is completely toxic and full of fear here. Employees are not respected, listened to, or treated well across the board. Which is why so many respected employees have quit here.. Please please please do not fall into the trap and work here!! There literally is not even an HR/Hiring team here anymore because they all quit!

      Thank you very much for sharing your feedback. Your concerns regarding the tight knit leadership and opportunities for HR in 2019 were valid. Since that time, a lot has changed! We have two HR leaders completely devoted to the employee experience and to creating a place where employees and taking ownership is rewarded. The leadership team communicates regularly, and this is demonstrated by monthly updates to all people as well as a more inclusive leadership team. We are all growing and evolving together, and input like yours has helped us along the way.

      Pros

      The employees are really talented and I enjoy being around them

      Cons

      The CEO claims he is all about the people and that is why he started the business yet doesn't trust them to work from home and watches the cameras to see when they come and go. They would ask us to fill out surveys but we haven't seen anything come of them. His recent stunt was telling all the employees to come outside and check out his new Aston Martin......Im glad hes able to cash out on all our hard work as most of us are getting paid pennies. He hires his friends and gives them big titles. It is a toxic environment all around.

      Thank you for your review. We continue to work on ways to show our people that they are valued. Since 2020, we have had success with a hybrid model where working from home and remote working are both encouraged. Our comprehensive listening strategy now includes 30, 60, and 90-day surveys, stay interviews, 1:1s with Managers and People Operations, as well as employee engagement surveys. We now have a mighty team of two in People Operations (HR) devoted to listening for emerging themes and taking action upon them. Our CEO has earned an excellent approval rating, both internally and on Glassdoor. We appreciate your input and are proud of our cultural progress.

      Looks can be deceiving

      Pros

      - Happy hour on Fridays (if you're not too swamped to take part) - Genuinely smart, friendly, cooperative employees - Energetic vibe - Maternity/paternity leave (generous for USA, standard for all other 1st world countries) - Monthly company outings - Nice location with plenty of options for lunch - Warehouse space with video games and a ping-pong table (but employees won't use them during the workday for fear of being seen as unproductive)

      Cons

      - This company is very unstable, with two rounds of surprise layoffs since the beginning of 2019. Very little trust between the CEO and the rest of the employees, stemming from a constant lack of honesty and transparency. - The clients highlighted on the company website, and mentioned in interviews, are not representative of the bulk of Monkedia's actual client list. A great deal of them are religiously affiliated, which may not necessarily be a con for individuals but is very insincere to not present at the forefront. - No work from home possibilities (at a tech-heavy startup?!) - Insufficient pay for the level of talent they want. - Refusal to provide adequate equipment for job roles that demand more powerful hardware than a stock office laptop.

      Thank you for the feedback. We're glad you appreciate the awesome people in our vibrant company. We have come a very long way over the last two+ years. Our stability has become our strength. We have added a lot of seasoned leaders who have taken us from a reactive place to a very proactive, strategic one. Transparency is now our number one goal, internally, and we have made significant operational changes to ensure everyone has access to regular updates from all parts of our growing company.
