Pros

You're surrounded by many talented and great team members; You don't have to wear a uniform, and there is the potential to work from home some times. You are provided with reasonable tools to do your job, and the technology environment is very much agnostic, with most staff running either Mac or Linux. There are no restrictions with regards to internet access, you're just responsible for your own actions. They are aware of the issues after doing internal surveys. In the Perth office, Moodle mum is the absolute light of the company, she's an incredible person and is a delight to have around for her occasional visits. The occasional massages were a nice touch.

Cons

Moodle is a very difficult place to work, at least it is once you get settled in and see what it's really like to work there. There is a real atmosphere of pressure and general discontent with the workplace. Unfortunately, working at Moodle is not an experience I would recommend for anyone else, it's incredibly stressful and the management has unrealistic expectations of their staff. If you think working remotely will shield you from this, you're unfortunately mistaken. Moodle's turnover is incredibly high, and something I've not seen in any other company I've worked with, which only speaks to what others are subjected to, and the real culture behind Moodle. Management is seemingly unwilling to change, with surveys being put out to see how things are going, getting those results, and not changing a thing. Martin himself is abusive and condescending at times, especially when he thinks he can get away with it by not talking with you face to face or over video chat (ie: text). In person he's generally pleasant, however, he denies and twists the truth to put things back on others, blames everyone else for issues that occur, and it's all your fault if something goes wrong, even if you've documented everything and put the decision back on him. As Martin is the CEO of Moodle, this toxic behaviour seemingly echoes down the chain, and all staff suffer as a consequence. You ask for realistic things with full business cases and you're told they'll look into it, then nothing. They essentially want to wear down as much as possible, then start on the next resource. You're not a person here, you're a resource. When another staff member departs, their workload is then lumped onto you and your team without a replacement, making it an even more stressful environment. All in all, Moodle is not a great place to work, it's very much a toxic environment with a toxic culture attached to it and unfortunately nothing will change until management starts thinking about others and start acting in a manner in which they portray to the general public. I only hope one day they'll finally take on feedback and action it, most are too scared to post publicly, fearing some sort of retribution.

What we have here is the type of person who would anonymously post a very negative review in public place where it will reflect on the reputation of that person, and the company, forever, regardless of any truth of the original statements, or any very significant improvements that might have been made since the time this person was asked to leave the company (after a long period of very poor performance). It's a shame. In fact Moodle has a strong policy of delegating responsibilities across the entire team, under a global umbrella of strong values and high standards. Not everyone can cope with this kind of freedom: not everyone can live to up to high standards or accept/discuss constructive criticism when their work causes issues for the rest of the team. However, if you truly want to be PART of a team that supports millions of educators worldwide with values of respect, innovation, education, integrity and innovation, then you'll find Moodle is a good place for you.

Pros

* Flexible working conditions * Great work/life balance * Above industry-average compensation and benefits * Agile team * Project weeks! Empowers developers to explore new and cool stuff that can improve Moodle! * We have a VR room! * Travel opportunities by representing Moodle in Moodle Moots! * Snacks, drinks, espresso machine plus a weekly supply of treats/fruits with love from our Moodle Mum! * Fun Friday afternoons. Dev training, talks, demos, games... and booze!

Cons

* Developing in Moodle probably has a relatively high learning curve compared to the usual web development frameworks in PHP, but if you are up to the challenge and would like to make a difference in empowering educators around the world, then you should definitely apply!

Pros

The company serves an important role in providing an open source product for free. There is a strong community of users that collaborate to extend the product and make it better for everyone.

Cons

The salary for learning designers is low. There is not a large pool for qualifies Moodle admins. For this specialized skill, I would expect a higher salary.
