Pros

There are good benefits and it is a very stable job. You can learn a lot on the job.

Cons

Always a lot of pressure to do more with less. There is no consideration for your life outside of work. There is no benefit for actually working smarter. If you have to work a storm or go above and beyond for a special project that isn't apart of your job they do not reward you in any way. They expect that anything they want goes.

Pros

Stable job, ridiculous pay for what you do, good benefits. Vacation time after 6 mo Real union

Cons

Management is terrible. No one cares No one calls you back Hostile environment. You get down on yourself for being so unmotivated but its really the environment Long time employees generally careless gossipy people. Unhelpful. Keep busy till Friday. People on the outside who deal with NStar are always pissed because everyone is such a bum, avoid jobs in customer care. Run, run if you still can. If you try to explain anything to a manager they will just say no its simple and cut you off, and then maybe make fun of the quirks of the way you speak. General attitude of company is that it doesn't care, wants to penny pinch it's way to glory. You will usually have 12 hours of work for every 8 hour day, and people will wonder why it isn't all done. Even in the union. You will often be doing favors for people. Uses ancient technology. Have never even seen upper management in the building. A lot of people are untrained so you will find yourself explaining their job to them. Ridiculous.

Pros

Good people to work with. I miss my former colleagues.

Cons

If you leave this industry, as many of us had to without our choosing... you'll learn quickly that there aren't many other utilities to choose from. Its a detriment to you that you'll have knowledge of a very specialized industry. Also to note. You will be assigned a storm assignment during severe storms. We were not paid for the additional hours worked. And they were long shifts.
