Pros

This job offers lots of security, it's attractive for anyone who needs a stable income and shields away from recession or retrenchment. Reminder: it is not a "retirement" job.

Cons

On top of teaching, lecturers will be assigned many other admin duties that take up a lot of their time and left them with little time to prepare notes, mark assignments, and provide feedback to students on their assessments. You will have lots of work goals to fulfill and have to learn to prioritize appropriately to go up the rank and feel guilty towards the students.

Pros

Stable income, cheap canteen food and free parking. Possible to save money if you are working here.

Cons

If you are a lecturer, your reviewing officer and students can review you. However you can review no one. Haha. Like a hamburger. Just prepare your ammo if you get grilled during student feedback review.

Pros

Good structure driven by the government of Singapore. Wide spectrum of courses and caters to diverse groups of students.

Cons

It is very clear, from your interviews that the lecturers are burnt out, forced to be put into a box and denied growth opportunities. Once you understand how senior management behaves and hires, it's easy to understand why. They look out for junior lecturers who are easy to fit into their system of subservience, so that the management team at the top continues to thrive with minimal effort. Show any hint of anti-establishment, and prepared to face wrath from the top. Do a few interviews with different polytechnics in Singapore, and you would realise how different the toxic culture is at NYP. It's unfortunate because there are good people at the lower ranks, who would forever be left behind because of bad culture coming from the top. Wake up people. Do your part for the future generation and stop this self-serving bs.
