The CEO is Bad News

Pros

You'll likely get paid on time.

Cons

I worked for Quotient Technology before the company was purchased by Neptune. I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to describe Neptune leadership. Toddlers who need a nap? Ebenezer Scrooge before he met the ghosts? A couple of rabid raccoons in a trench coat? You get the idea. How has Neptune Retails Solutions screwed people over? Let me count the ways! 1) Purchased Quotient and immediately laid off hundreds of employees including 99% of the legal and HR departments (because who needs legal or HR advice when laying off employees in multiple states and countries?); 2) offered less severance than required by the merger agreement with Quotient; 3) only increased severance to the agreed upon amount if an employee complained (and not everyone knew to complain); 4) issued separation agreements that are unenforceable in California; 5) refused to correct the separation agreements when notified of the legal issues; 6) failed to pay California employees their final wages on their last day; 7) refused to pay waiting time penalties as required by California law; 8) failed to properly enroll former employees in COBRA; 9) failed to pay severance in full; and 10) refused to answer any emails sent to HR (seriously - you have to email the CEO multiple times to get answers to simple questions).

Pros

There are no pros to share.

Cons

1 - Our CEO (Bill) is unprofessional and "talks down" to employees constantly. 2 - While Bill (CEO) has a proven track-record in flipping businesses, he has extremely poor communication skills (poor to the level that we question his basic education), yet he then turns around and criticizes everyone else's communication. It's bizarre. It would be funny if his poor communication wasn't always negatively directed to your team/department. 3 - Neptune cuts benefits too often. Their objective is to increase profits in order to sell Neptune in coming 1-2 years (following our acquisition of Quotient). This means employee benefits have been reduced to bare minimum. 4 - Zero support/resources from our bare-boned HR team. They don't exist and do not help us.

I’d hate to say I told you so

Pros

-High and competitive base salary (not worth the soul sucking cons though) -Remote work with autonomy over your schedule

Cons

-Micromanagement to the highest degree. Not one thing can be accomplished without approval from the CEO (or maybe one of his minions if he’s feeling generous) -Absolutely zero respect for employees or customers -CEO toxically gossips to employees about each other, then complains about typical workplace chatter -Every man for themselves mentality. Leaders are encouraged to throw employees and counterparts under the bus to make themselves look good -HR is not real. There is no HR leader, the team reports directly into the CEO. And back to the fact that he has to approve everything, there is no true collaborative people support, so if you’re having an issue, be comfortable with him being aware of all the details -Poor benefits with the highest copays and premiums -Consistently late on bonuses. Told they’re a privilege even though they are earned and documented. However, goals are either so outrageous or communicated so late into the year, the opportunity to earn said bonuses is almost nonexistent -CEO says jump, the leaders of the company say how high. If you don’t worship him and his minions, you are ignored, belittled, and pushed out.
