Pros

Competitive salary, compressed work schedule, health insurance, savings and pension plan.

Cons

Totally a different company since it was acquired by Chinese owned entity. All networking, and social events were cut-off due to an unreasonable cost reduction goal. All senior employees either have since retired within the first transitional year, leaving all the rest of employees to slowly quit while contractors were quietly terminated. In the recent massive lay-offs, employee seniority and loyalty towards the company was not appreciated and those that remain have been reassigned without consultation to existing operating projects. It was indeed a toxic working environment, were your work was not valued at all by your superiors!

Pros

The people at the working level are really nice. People work hard and create a good atmosphere. The benefits and pay are above average.

Cons

Senior executive management is not trustworthy. They all have hidden agendas and undermine lower levels of leadership. Especially HR cannot be trusted.

Pros

Employees grandfathered into the Old DB pension have a good pension, savings and benefits. New Employees get a substantially reduced plans

Cons

Nexen is no longer a good Employer. Safety is an espoused value until it costs a dollar. Industrial close calls and accidents due partly to reduced staffing. Safety policies are written strongly but bypassed if workflow slows. During the Fort McMurray fires Nexen Employee Families fleeing North stopping at Long Lake were told to go somewhere else. Peers who were laid off were not treated with respect and Nexen did nothing to save jobs and in fact layed off more than we could handle and are re-hiring positions; unnecessarily, disruptive to Employees.
