Great place to work, management that recognizes talent

Pros

Great people with great minds, working on amazing technology. It's a fast growing startup, so prepare to face tough challenges because that's what it takes to be a leader. Good news is, the peers and management is supportive. Talent is recognised and there's abundant opportunities for growth. There's a huge opportunity for growth in the coming months.

Cons

Under staffed. Not for those who expect to work for fixed hours. One is expected to put more hours to move with the fast paced industry (as with most startups).

Pros

Solid technology and new leadership has found their stride. Large customer base and happy current customers. Great deployments across all verticals. This company is picking up steam from mismanagement in the past and tech issues have been resolved.

Cons

Work / Life balance could be better. Aggressive product dev. timelines sometimes lead to missed goals.

Pros

This is the place were I've learned a lot: javascript, python, UI development, network, storage, unix, solaris. Nexenta requires to use a lot of different technologies, from different field, and has a lot of great engineers who can help to explore, good people.

Cons

Massive growth of the component comes with some extra work.

Pros

Ability to work remotely Salary Amazingly smart people to work with Cool technology areas to work in

Cons

Lack of understanding of how to do real engineering results in unrealistic schedules which are major contributors to product quality issues. These quality issues cause major customer problems. Rather than investing the time up front to develop and release a quality product time is then spent on the back end fixing customer issues after the sale is made. Engineers spend at least 50% of their time on customer escalations. No opportunity for engineers to do innovative work. Too much time spent shoring up previous releases. And yet new product features are 'sold' before they are ready. A terrible work/life balance. The expectation is that people will be available 7 days a week. Meetings are called on Sunday afternoons. This is all as a result of the constant panic mode under which management operates. Rather than being realistic about schedules, features and resources required to develop, release and support a competitive, quality product the expectation is that people will just be available at all times. It seems that with the new CEO the focus is on increasing company valuation to position it for acquisition without really doing the right things to make a competitive and quality product and to ensure customers are happy. It's a smoke and mirrors show.

Pros

Nexenta has always had great employees, innovative products and a strong management team, but recently there has been a buzz around the office and it seems like even more exciting times are ahead. Feels good to be part of core team working on cutting edge technology. Hard working, friendly culture. Good snacks!

Cons

It can be a fast moving (but rewarding) pace.

Pros

Great technology, partners, and people - CEO has good vision and is building towards a strong culture, lots of energy around the brand, full of "fixable problems" that mean big success for employees; at the front of the next wave of innovation - software defined data center; work days are long, but the work has an impact, which makes it satisfying; I'm glad to be here and plan on staying; and my two cents - love the open floor plan - now I can talk to people :) it's energizing

Cons

The culture is in transition and change is hard; the journey to enterprise class doesn't happen overnight and means a lot of process discipline that people don't always like; culture / company change = some people churn, but I think this is a necessary process; right now, everyone's getting used to the new reality; as we settle down, all that improves
