Culture is poor in many departments, resulting in a lack of teamwork. There are different sets of rules for those who are favored. New ideas are not appreciated. There are many entrenched employees who only show up to do the bare minimum, tribal departments and supervisors protect their respective gravy trains and push back against new ideas and/or additional responsibilities. That in itself is demoralizing for those who try to succeed and improve processes. Communication between departments is poor, employees are not apprised of department and greater company goals. This creates a rudderless atmosphere where no one feels purpose behind their work. Managers are not schooled in people skills, which makes for unnecessary challenges and drama. HR policies are approximately 30 years behind the times. Staff is nice enough to deal with, but they are limited by the official policies. No sick days, no vacation for first year hires. There is a points system for absences. Points are given if you are out sick. Employees are pressured to use vacation days to avoid getting points. If you miss work for a funeral you are expected to bring signed proof from the funeral home. How insulting and insensitive. A final observation is that repeating “A great place to work!” over and over does not make it factual. A thoughtful effort is required to make this a true statement, and a lot more effort is required than what is presently put forth.
