Pros

Working at OceanBase has been an incredibly rewarding experience. The working environment is collaborative and positive, with passionate people who genuinely care about what they do and continuously inspire others through their working style and mindset. There is a strong sense of mutual understanding across teams, your voice is heard, and expectations are both clear and reasonable. What I admire the most is the growth mindset embedded across the organization, where both the company and the people within it are constantly striving to learn, improve, and evolve together.

Cons

There have been aggressive and commendable efforts across the organization to become fully international, and significant progress has already been made in that direction. As part of this transition, some documentation is still in the process of being converted to English. While there is a dedicated team that provides quick support for document translation and conversion, there remains some room for further improvement to make the experience even more seamless for global teams.

Pros

just working here for several months. Before I joined in the company, I heard of some negative voice, like "everything is in the beginning", "you hv to survive by yourself", "lack of enablement and readiness" , even some office rumors. This is not my first job in a startup, so quite familiar with this kind of chaos and different voices. But this is some of my experience and feelings in my real life in past few months here: 1. Open and Humble. when i talked with my friends who are familar with this company about this feeling, everybody is shocked. But yes this is my real feeling which I also surprised. I found that I could push some big virtual projects across functions and make it happen very soon. And when I seek for some support from internal teams, if I found the right person, everybody I met is make-sense and very kind to help me. The baseline is that, most of the people here are really hope the company can success. Maybe they are not skillful and full of insights about APAC business but they are humble and want to listen and learn from everybody. I don't know if OPEN and HUMBLE is important or not for everyone, for me, this is the most important thing, and, it is very easy to say, but hard to do it. 2. Excellent Product. This is also an unique value for me to have a good experience for a long-term career in a company, cause I am a GTM role, so I couldnot do too much in define the product quality. But this is the most important foundation for my work. and also for my customer value. Since I hv 18 years experience in database and infra industry as a GTM role, I really care about my customer voice as my best guide line to evaluate the product is good or not. If here is rating for the product, I think so far, my customers and I will rating 5 stars to Oceanbase. 3. Customers facing. This is also a easy-to-say word, but actually, it is more difficult and challenging in the startup starting a new business in the new region. Because most of the collegues are not familliar with the real situations in the market, and the resource is quite limited in local, it will need more trust and deternimation to the front-end team from the product team, service team and also mid-office teams. I am exciting to see that all the teams behind me is fully support my requirements even sometimes they are all busy with their personal objectives and tasks as well. Especially the product team and operation teams, they are all focus on what the customer want, and believe and support the sales team's strategy to the customers. Not everthing we can do perfect, but anything we can commit and try our best to fulfill. This is really awsome for GTM function teams. But thi tips is to make everybaody fully understand the plan and the why behind.

Cons

As other comments here to say, here is not perfect and well-done in some readiness. 1. The Process. it is no very clear now which is challeging for the person who used to follow in the murtual company, but maybe for me, it is interesting cause we could define it in a correct way and help to improve it easily. 2. The Job Scope. it is also not very clear now. sometime I also hv some confused about my scope for my customer segmentation or some responsibilities 😂. Auctually this will make some chaos situation, but as I said in the "Pros", the OPEN mind and CUSTOMER FACING, can solve most of the problems for me now. and I really want to say, this is always inevery start-up which I kindly enjoyed it as a “set of start-up" with some other interesting and creative part together. 3. Nobody know us. I think this is also a thing for some of my collegues especially for GTM teams. That's why I decide to write this comments after I read the comments from some of the ex-employees here. Actually, this is my first-time writing the comments in Glassdoor, but I think it is more important to contribute than blame. So I want to share my real exeperience here and make more friends know Oceanbase from different angle.
