Great mission, not always great execution

Pros

Making a real difference in the lives of community members, fun events, great employee wellness programming

Cons

Disorganization, poor management, especially in middle management. Senior directors can be oblivious to issues within departments, especially abuse of lower level employees. Administrative staff paid reasonably well, pay for culinary and distribution is abysmally low.

Pros

The culture at Open Hand is amazing as all the employees work toward the mission.

Cons

Being a non-profit, sometimes you have to wear different hats. Everyone pitches in and there is a real team dynamic.

Pros

Working at this company has been a truly rewarding experience. Being part of a philanthropy-driven organization where everyone is mission-minded and focused on helping others makes coming to work every day meaningful. The team culture is supportive, collaborative, and full of people who genuinely care—not just about the work, but about each other. Our mission to provide meals to those who need them most is both humbling and inspiring. Knowing that the work we do directly impacts people’s lives adds a deeper sense of purpose to everything. Leadership here is not only attentive and approachable, but they actively encourage growth, listen to feedback, and support you in doing your best work.

Cons

Communication across varying schedules may require extra coordination and proactive planning to ensure alignment and timely responses.
