I read your review with a real sense of disappointment. I joined Opsview in January 2018 in the knowledge that we had been through a difficult period mid-2017, but was confident the company had already made significant changes (else I wouldn’t have joined!). As I understand it, questions were asked about the future direction and ambition of the organisation - we had been a fairly conservative business, steadily building a base of over 425 customers and conserving our cash. The leadership team engaged with the employees, listened, and responded with a bold decision to invest in product innovation, new people and faster growth. Since I’ve been here we’ve hired 30 people, many with hard-to-find cutting edge skills (I know! I’ve been the one trying to unearth these amazing people!). We’ve released an early version of Opsview 6.0 with its new microservices architecture; we’ve secured further new and expansion deals; we’ve run domain-leading marketing and community events; and we’ve started the Innovation Team, who recently delivered the brand new WSL Tools community product. All this can be read about on our considerably improved website. The organisation you describe is nothing like the one I know – the management are more present and supportive, and the HR team is extremely visible! I really do feel we are on a very different path to when you were here and the leadership team have learnt some valuable lessons, some of which you allude to. I know all companies have tough times, and that it’s hard to satisfy everyone. I’m really sorry your experience towards the end of your time here with Opsview wasn’t a positive one – I wish you could see and experience where we are now. With our growing Opsview team, I know we have a very bright future ahead of us.

Attractive perception but poor reality - What is promised doesn’t happen

Pros

Very friendly hard working staff at lower levels of organisation. Good Nice location in university. Nice cafe in building and working office.

Cons

Senior management do not listen or act in the way that reflects what they say the company stands for. All the problems come from senior management not letting very talented employees do what they were employed to do which has made good people leave. There is a culture of moving people on if they don’t perform but this does not apply to senior management. Flexible working and work benefits are offered but the attitude around these is very old school which makes people not take advantage of them and feel as though they are acting poorly if they do. New hires are expected at very low rates but for high experience. Don’t believe what might be promised.

Pros

* Offices based in nice location. * Free parking. * Great coffee shop downstairs.

Cons

* Leadership team approach archaic. * Flexible working frowned upon. * Scared to make any decision that might be even remotely risky, thus holding back company advancement. * Hard work rarely recognised or rewarded. * Management don’t value ideas from others. They think they know best despite evidence to the contrary. * Champion old tech, and wonder why innovative staff leave. * Average benefits package that you could expect at almost any company. * Spend years developing hackneyed updates to the software, which invariably stimulate no market interest. * Happy to watch competitors sail by. * The only freely available training is internal fluff that has no value. Any worthwhile external training extremely difficult to get signed off. * Several ‘overbearing’ senior staff members appear untouchable, despite multiple inappropriate incidents. This has caused many talented staff members to leave. * Company events mandatory, with reprimands from management for non attendance. * Staff made to feel guilty by the Leadership team when using recreational facilities provided for them within the break area.
