Pros

Orca really tried, they just couldn't get product to work in the prime-time environments and lost to smarter competition who knew how to engineer and execute. A laid back culture, US teams are chill and have accepted that we're nothing more than a low cost, mid-market alternative. you can make 50% of your plan and no-one will say a thing. It's not for the high performers, but a great place to learn

Cons

Product won't scale. scrapped the agent as, like most other initiatives here, great idea but couldn't execute like Wiz. Management team is sympathetic, almost like they've accepted our fate as a bit player. Palo and Wiz will fight this out, we'll still get the mid-market cheap alternatives. CEO has no idea how to change the trajectory, CMO will peddle weak marketing awards from agencies noone has ever heard of. CRO seems like a nice guy, just isn't built for the enterprise and all the sales stars moved on to greener pastures. HR put in restrictive "save a buck" policies for travel, so now I only do zooms rather than deal with all of that

Good things have come to pass

Pros

When I started with Orca, things were great. Benefits were inexpensive to the employee, lots of cross-department collaboration, and most of leadership was good. The platform itself was also a great product to sell. Early employees were fantastic to work with.

Cons

Much of sales management put on a good face, but ultimately wouldn't actually help when needed. They would deflect and tell you to go to another rep. Hiring the current CMO was largely a mistake. If a marketing campaign works, she'll claim the victory. If it doesn't work, she'll blame it on lower marketing management. Her numbers are consistently inflated and inaccurately represented. She will also say one thing and take significantly different action. When I first started, we were told that there was a flat hierarchy structure. No person is more important than another. There was only a difference in job tasks. It didn't take long before that changed and lower-level staff were largely ignored. There is a clear barrier between mid-level management and upper management, where it appears as if mid-level management has no real influence in decision-making. If it didnt come from upper management, then it does not matter. I also heard a lot of false promises. Promotions that weren't really promotions, but more of a title change with added responsibility. Many people had never received a base increase or cost of living adjustment through their time at Orca.

Pros

I appreciate the fact that we are a remote-first company, it allows for mostly good work-life balance, and we are offered inexpensive healthcare coverage/benefits. Time off is decent and managers are flexible and understanding when personal matters arise. I personally haven't encountered any micro-managing here.

Cons

There was a time, 2-3 years ago, where Orca was a good place to work. Our then-CEO had an 'all gas, no brakes' attitude and encouraged each team to try things and if you fail, fail fast and learn from your experiences. Our culture was great, those in leadership were transparent, and we were hitting our goals and metrics for the most part. Then, everything started to decline. The board appointment of our CMO, the changing of hands in the C-Suite, and the Product team's inability to keep up with our competitors/ prevent us from winning large logos in the Enterprise has been the downfall of this company. Our CMO has the highest employee turnover rate, for several reasons. Her lack of leadership skills and inability to build market awareness and generate demand is at the root of it. We've had several employees in the Marketing org who were really great at their jobs leave because of how terribly she runs her org. CMO tries to claim influence on all Sales-generated opportunities, which inflates her numbers and makes it look like her teams are performing better than they are. We have extremely bright and talented technical co-founders who should never have been in the CEO/COO seat, as they have no experience leading a company. This company has been their baby, and they refused to let go of control. The result of their repeated mismanagement of the company and overspending of our budget has been a 20% RIF. We've lost supreme talent, and a massive chunk of great individuals who've spent the last few years helping to build this company. You've lost the individuals who were here when Orca was good - who knew and embodied the culture. You may be able to rehire, but the culture will remain terrible so long as our CMO, CEO and rest of leadership are in place. Even now, almost a week after the RIF, we've gotten zero communication or direction as to what

Thank you for taking the time to share your comprehensive feedback. Your detailed insights reflect a genuine concern and care for Orca, and we appreciate your commitment to providing a thorough perspective. We acknowledge the challenges and changes you've highlighted, and we want you to know that like any feedback here, we have made our C-suite aware of it for learning and understanding. As for your implication that we delete reviews on Glassdoor, we want to clarify that it's not technically possible for administrators to control, nor do we wish for that. Having said that, there have been a few rare instances where reviews were flagged for patently false information. We take such incidents seriously and are committed to maintaining a respectful and supportive environment. If you have additional suggestions, we welcome further internal discussions. We want to thank you for being an integral part of Orca, and we look forward to working together to make positive changes.
