Dream job turned into a nightmare in short amount of time...

Pros

Learned the most in one year than I ever have at any other company. Loved working the actual events from start to finish. Tons of exposure in the sponsorship/marketing realm. Position is very fast paced with a TON of moving parts, it was like owning your own small business or many small businesses because you managed everything from the box office, promotions, sponsorships, media buying, etc.

Cons

No training…of the job, of the expectations, of the processes. Day 1, I went through a 2-4 hour HR mandatory orientation and then was assigned my cubicle and was handed a binder with my first assigned market without direction, without training or guidance, etc. Spent the first couple weeks even up until the day I left without much interaction of my direct report. Very religious team, felt like an outcast because I didn't participate in weekly bible studies. Mentor pulled me aside to ask if she could pray for me and then proceeded to due so in the conference room. There is no growth opportunity. HIgh turnover!

Compromised Integrity

Pros

Departments are stretched thin so they expect you to take on a beyond reasonable workload. The positive side of this is you have an opportunity to learn and gain experience in areas you typically would not.

Cons

I was required to participate in and support immoral and unethical activities at the officer level. When I brought them to light with HR and another officer I faced retaliation. In addition to poor business practices infidelity and misconduct on the road is encouraged.

Huge Turnover

Pros

Most of the employees have a great deal of passion for the sport. If you are able to have a position where you can travel, it can be fun and interesting.

Cons

There is a huge turnover in this organization. They do not pride themselves on "training on the job" if they don't like someone anymore, they fire them. They tend to only hire people ‘they know’ and who are very under qualified, this way they are able to underpay as well.
