Possibly Well Intended but not meeting the mark

Pros

Consistent hours, Monday through Friday with weekends off. Benefits start immediately upon hire. Great off-site training and wellness programs. Unfortunately, staff is not given adequate time to attend "mandatory" trainings, which results in lower wage increases/promotion. Great place to learn the subsidized housing business, then leave for better environment!

Cons

Disorganized, under-budgeted, poor on-site training, abusive/explosive/unprofessional regional supervisor is allowed to wreak havoc upon entire territory. Regional supervisor does is not held accountable and throws staff under the buss to protect herself. When staff complains to Human Resources or senior management, it is not kept confidential. The person reporting/complaining will be found out and treated poorly by supervisor. When seasoned employees express desire to move-up and experience career growth, the company ignores them and hires from outside, resulting in high turn-over.

Pros

Eventually good support, flexible balance of home and work life. Once familiar with who can and will support your growth, it becomes more comfortable and worth it.

Cons

At the beginning there was no support or direction, I had little training on the policies but quick to be told I handled it wrong.

Great place to work

Pros

POAH is a great place to work with many wonderful, smart, engaging people. People care about the mission and each other. It was a positive work environment for me and I still miss the people I worked with there (five years later).

Cons

Like many non-profits, some people seem to be doing jobs that should really be spread out across two or three people. Of course this can lead to burnout, but I found that supervisors and leadership were generally responsive when these concerns were brought up.
