Pros

If you like "judgmental" personalities: this place is for you!

Cons

When you come aboard PPI you will quickly be taken back by the lack of respect upper management shows it employees. Be prepared to be ridiculed in public, with your physical appearance and personal assets being the main topics of discussion. Rarely, will your hard work and long hours be acknowledged or appreciated, yet the slightest oversight is magnified tenfold. Professional Publications has a high turnover rate due to interpersonal interactions amongst employees. Cooperation and collaboration is not encouraged, leading to cross-functional competition versus a sense of being one team. Employees often leave within the first year, realizing the emotional distress caused by the Director of Operations is not part of a healthy work place.

This reviewer has included fabricated content. PPI has a warm and welcoming, supportive culture and deeply values diversity. PPI's culture is embraced by all staff and comes directly from executive management -- there is no bullying, harassment, or discrimination at PPI. Each colleague values the thoughts and opinions of the other. The collegiality at PPI is very similar to that which is experienced when one serves in higher education -- we are thoughtful learners and listeners. And serving in our own "cocoon of higher education," we most certainly would not ridicule or otherwise harm our valued colleagues. Turnover has been an issue, as PPI is a small business in the competitive Silicon Valley job market. That said, PPI has employees who have been here for 5, 10, 15 years (plus). For those individuals seeking an innovative yet stable work environment, PPI is a great place to work.

Pros

The people, the kitchen, the food and the parties.

Cons

The management and the culture. Culture of stringency and competition, negativity and non-appreciation. Never hear the words "thank you, well done, good job". Even with the most recent 5 and 4-star reviews written by anonymous current employees (management??) it is telling that the average is still only 2 stars. And it is appropriate. If you are considering employment at PPI, DO believe all the negative reviews--they are true. Unless there has been a huge shakedown in management, the most recent positive ones are not.

It is mentioned in another review that there had been turnover in the past year, and this is evidently one of those outcomes (someone who was hired but who realized that s/he was not a good fit with PPI's thoughtful and collaborative culture). PPI has folks who have served the organization for decades (one just recently retired after 20 years). We humbly request that folks visiting this site not place so much stock into the degree of negativity that a handful of people have decided to contribute -- what they do with their time is their own business. At PPI, ensuring that people succeed is OUR business. And to that end, we hire, develop, train, and retain to the very best of our abilities very high quality contributors who genuinely wish to provide superior customer service in all that they do.
