Looks Great from the Outside, Rotten on the Inside
Pros
- Meaningful and challenging product - Great company events - Significant budget for AI
Cons
Where to start...? - Lack of transparency - Below-average salary - Promotions are extremely difficult to get, and the salary increase that comes with them is a joke - The "Staff" and "Principal" engineer titles are a complete joke. There's even a running joke in the company that being active on Slack is more important than engineering impact if you want to get promoted to Staff+ - Incompetent management. Many managers seem more focused on protecting their own positions than on improving the product or the company - Employees being monitored 24/7 - Poor communication, unclear direction, and questionable product decisions often result in unnecessary pressure on engineers - Good employees (the doers) are laid off while highly positioned but ineffective employees (the talkers) remain - Silent layoffs - General feeling of insecurity - Constant poor technical decisions made to hit short-term KPIs and protect management positions, often at the expense of long-term product quality and maintainability
