      Work is rewarding but culture is hectic and bad communication

      Pros

      Working with artists and community, cool projects and interesting projects that can sometimes involve dance, performance and creative expression and fun programs

      Cons

      Pay is terrible, work environment is toxic and management is inexperienced and cannot communicate. Management is checked out to their employees needs. Supervisors can be toxic and often ignore their direct reports needs. Salaries are not sustainable in this economy and the turnover is so rapid.

      Well-funded, long-running org but many challenges

      Pros

      Artistic ideas are valued and able to be supported and implemented, especially if you can get the ear of the executive director. It is a well-funded nonprofit so if you know how to advocate for your work, you will get financial support for your ideas.

      Cons

      Fast-paced and often a sense of "urgency." Leads to little strategy around long term visioning and time for reflection/planning. Large organization that struggles with siloed departments, very little artistic direction from the top. As an employee, there are rarely opportunities for advancement and no guaranteed raises aside from small quality of life bumps that often feel overdue when they are granted. Organization also struggles with a lot of DEI challenges, but is trying to learn to be better in this area.

      Pros

      The work is exciting and meaningful. The culture of the organization is chaotic, unorganized and as a result the turnover at Mural Arts is incredibly high.

      Cons

      No work life balance. Barely raises and pay is already below average. Somewhat toxic work atmosphere and poor upper leadership and communication .
