Pros

Energetic place and the manager Michelle is a nice woman. I don't blame her for it - but there is nothing good about this place.

Cons

Was told that I was going to be paid $9.00 an hour, turns out it's actually $7.60 an hour and their is no real chance to make over $10.00 an hour for the week. They take your number of sales and divide the total by the hours you work, and the commissions rewarded for sales are dirt low. Only 5 minute breaks, 3 times in 8 hours, so if you're hungry, good luck trying to eat and hope someone doesn't throw out your food until your next break. Was suppose to be trained but all supervisors and managers are not on the same page, very contradictory. Basically winged it and made sales by actually communicating with the customers, but was still demanded to follow their script which angered customers. (Been called some of the most horrible things) Also expected to sell newspaper to EVERYONE, regardless if they are blind, in another state, dealing with a sickness, selling to someone who just lost their loved one, happens so often, it's disgusting to sit there and try to sell the newspaper to an elderly woman who's husband just passed away, or a woman in a hospital bed who cannot afford the outrageous prices of newspaper because she has stage 3 cancer and can't afford to even pay for her surgery bills. Everyone smokes and it causes the workplace to stink - some people reek of marijuana. Promised flexible hours and $9 hourly wage, I do not receive $9 an hour and when trying to take off for being sick, they attempted to manipulate me into feeling bad and blamed my desire to recover from being sick, on their lack of sales. No. Your lack of sales are based on allowing your employees to rob innocent people to buy a newspaper TWICE (Mainly deceiving older people) and having complaints filed for reimbursement because these people are receiving the same paper twice and paying for both! Because your horrible supervisors and management are too busy looking at customers as paychecks instead of looking at them as people who need help. Offer people your horrible discounts, but if they don't want it, leave them alone, we are forced to harass them up to 3 times, basically to beg and maintain an "excited" attitude about it the entire time. Nobody gets that excited about newspaper......

Pros

Fairly flexible hours. Decent commission when you can actually find someone who can be convinced to subscribe to a newspaper that supplies information they can get on the Internet for free.

Cons

You have to sell a product nobody wants not only because it's out of date, but because the service of the companies you are selling on behalf of have HORRIBLE customer service. I can't tell you how many calls I made to people who had canceled their newspaper service because it never got delivered. Management doesn't care, they expect you to lie to the customer and tell them that they have fixed the problem when they knew full-well that the company delivering the newspaper never fixed the problem. This company is 100% sales, 0% customer service. However, if you're comfortable blatantly lying to people and stealing money from them on a day-to-day basis, then this is the job for you!
