Pros

Pixel has a friendly, non-formal culture. They strive to get better and grow both company and its employees. Work is fun - might not be a game dev dream job, but it is comfortable, and you can find some really amazing, kind people there. Work life balance is generally encouraged and I didn't notice people being shamed for it at all. Crunch can happen, but depending on the team, there's mostly will to avoid it if possible. There is an effort for honesty and transparency with numbers and inner happening at the company. The pay and benefits are overall great.

Cons

I had amazing two years at the company, however, the closure of czech branch of Pixel was incredibly dishonest, chaotic and unprofessional. While employees have been praised and received consistently good feedback, the branch was closed, most likely due to financial struggles of upkeeping the branch, mostly offices. This unfortunately wasn't properly communicated to the team. Narrative and reasoning changed multiple times - additionally, there wasn't much will from the management to look for other options (like cheaper offices, temporary work from home etc). Based on my previous experiences with the company, I personally expected more of a conversation and care shown towards the team. To be fair, everyone from czech team was offered relocation to main offices in slovakia - but would you want to relocate to another country, when the word of management changes without offering explanation, all the while claiming to have an honest work culture? Adding salt to injury, severance wasn't properly communicated and exit paperwork was a bit of a chaos. I used to have so much trust in the company, but the last bits of communication felt like I had to CMA all the time, at every step. One positive thing in all of this was the exit interview with compassionate people partner. I hope it will help move company in better direction, and things like this will not happen to others.

Pros

- super team! - flexible working hours - a very nice-looking office - regular sessions on your career growth, opportunities for learning, conferences, etc. - smaller team that allows you to actually have an impact and pursue changes -team lead and product owners that are OK

Cons

- the management in Bratislava - so they wanted to close our project but denied to give us another one because “nobody in Bratislava wants to work remote”?? Why did you open an office in another country, then?? - so they go “you guys make up your own new game and we will probably accept it and you go with it there in Brno”. Ok, we do make up a whole new concept in less than 2 months, and then they are like “too ambitious for us, sorry”(( should I say the concept was very similar to another Pixel successful published games?(( - so they give us a generous opportunity: to be fired in Brno or to be relocated onsite to Bratislava (no, remote is impossible for them) with the only relocation package being an accommodation allowance that could only cover some room, not whole apartment (they said “we will rent you an apartment and each of you will have their own room there! Wooow, super cool alternative for people above 30yrs with a family, isn’t it?) so the vast majority of us are happily fired

Pros

I always admired organisation level on the projects in Pixel Federation. Every aspect of work process was well described, documented and kept updated. Thanks to professional employees I always felt that there's no problem without a solution.

Cons

While Pixel Federation presents itself as a company that cares about work-life balance and the mental health of its employees, my experience was somewhat different. For nearly half a year, I felt constantly on edge due to the high levels of stress and the heavy workload. Despite repeated assurances that everything was okay and that the branch wouldn’t be closed, the entire branch was eventually shut down. Even though we achieved success and completed milestones, there was never a sense of job security. The pressure and uncertainty made it difficult to have faith in a stable future with the company. I hope Pixel Federation will address these issues to create a more supportive and transparent environment for their employees.
