Pros

Indeed a good job offer, including tax-free salary, furnished villa, excellent health care, two-month annual paid leave. Good working environment. Good work/life balance. Generous paid leave package. More opportunities for travel.

Cons

Doha city is quite small and boring. Extreme Heat and Humidity. Public transportation is in its infancy. Traffic here is a mess and people drive like lunatics. Doha in summer is a bit of a ghost town. The general working atmosphere here is a bit laid-back. Career wise, it can be a good place for senior people to retire here. It might not be a good place for early-career researchers to advance their career, although it provides attractive compensation package. It is not easy to lure highly motivated and talented students to work here.

Pros

The only good thing is the high payment, and that's only because there is no income tax. And for an intern, the income isn't that different (they pay interns half of researchers, unlike the US). Also, because of money there are some good researchers there.

Cons

The HR of the company is really really bad. Any simple task needs many steps and for each step you have to ask multiple times. There is not a single responsible HR there. E.g., there were many cases that people had to cancel/change the flights, because the person who was supposed to get the exit permit or visa didn't do that in time, and the employees didn't ask for the document late, even if you ask months in advance, the guy wouldn't do it till the last minute, and some times it doesn't work The city itself also doesn't have anything to offer. There is no special entertainment or anything fun to do and even drinking is super expensive. The people are in general very aggressive, specially in driving and even if you're crossing the street on a crosswalk, they not only slow down to let you pass, but also speed up to scare you! (That's because someone that doesn't drive a car is a second-class citizen.) It's really a shame that so much time and energy of researchers is wasted just because of poor IT and HR admins. All in all, I understand the money is tempting, but trust me all the headache isn't worth it. I realized I'd be much happier with the less money in the US.
