Pros

I don't have any good reasons to work here. It's a job.

Cons

Start with a typical day at work... There's no leeway with the timeclock, though you are "allowed" to punch in five minutes early, a minute late, though, regardless of circumstance, and you'll get half a point. Do that 7 times, or miss 3 days of work, even with a doctor's note, within 3 months and you're on your ear. Then you pound yourself into the ground, living for your next break so you can go get a cigarette. You might not smoke or drink before you start here, but you will soon after. Your tools are broken and you've got scrap and plastic "beads" all over the floor so watch your step as you're running with a running saw in your hands. We don't have time to clean while we're cutting, but we're supposed to. Maybe something will break down and you'll get an unexpected break. At the end of the day, we clean up and line up at the time clock because we can't wait for the best time of the day: when we get to leave. By 10 minutes after, there isn't a car in the parking lot and we're so happy to be free that we almost feel drunk. They don't train. You get handed a tool, shown once, and then ran at full force until you drop. Management doesn't know how to lead. Nobody above your immediate machine operator cares about your wellbeing. We're working through the pandemic and the only thing we were told we'd get for our "willingness" (we were strongly discouraged from taking the voluntary layoff) to work is, maybe, some overtime if business picks up. The hardest part of the job is turning my back on the pack of razor blades on my bathroom counter and coming in in the morning. The only enjoyable part of the job is the other guys that work there. We've made friends. Through the shared trauma of Truck Hero's abuse, we've bonded. We're all in poverty, so we share food, lend each other money when they cut our hours unexpectedly, and give each other rides to work when we can't afford gas or car insurance.
