A company with potential and a culture that's heading down a bad path
Pros
- The team I worked on was incredibly supportive and overall great to work with - They are truly remote first which is great for people who like to work from home - I gained technical experience and had a lot of opportunities to learn new things - For the most part, during my time there, the unlimited/flexible PTO was truly flexible which was great for work/life balance. Though I say that with the caveat that I have a suspicion their PTO policy will become more restrictive as time goes on
Cons
When I first started working at Recast, the culture among engineering and the expectations from management were very supportive and understanding. As long as the work was getting done, you felt like your contributions mattered. Over the duration of 2023, the perception towards engineers has become increasingly hostile. Developers are blamed for upper management decisions. QA isn't being given enough time to test. It all creates a feeling of pressure and tension that results in people feeling like they're walking on eggshells and unable to speak truthfully about the issues they're experiencing.
