Pros

Some great people work here, but unfortunately, they are not appreciated. The occasional team events in the office were fun. There is work-from-home flexibility.

Cons

Working at Reibus was a poor experience at best. The company's core values of 'grittiness' and 'ownership' are used to justify overworking and underpaying employees. During my tenure at Reibus, I found myself shouldering a workload equivalent to that of three or more people without receiving any additional compensation. Asking for fair compensation for the increased workload is met with the perception that doing so lacked the 'grittiness' and 'ownership' required to support the company's bottom line. Management is ineffective, focused on pleasing the CEO to avoid being cut next in layoffs rather than supporting their teams. The lack of effective people management led to disjointed teams and an unfair distribution of work. The constant changes, layoffs, and poor leadership hires are all masked under the pretense of cultural misfit, leading to a chaotic work environment. Those who remained faced the burden of the departed employees' workload without any recognition or promise of increased pay. Voicing concerns to management or HR was often met with gaslighting, making employees feel that they are just not a fit in the Reibus culture. The company's financial troubles lead to a fear-driven atmosphere, with little hope for the future. Leadership lacks transparency, hiding behind a wall of snideness, defensiveness, and dishonesty. Instead of focusing on the long-term success of the company, most employees’ efforts were dedicated to fulfilling every whim of the CEO. The CEO's ego-driven projects take precedence over long-term success, resulting in wasted effort and resources. The company's values, maybe once well-intentioned, are now weaponized against employees, being used to justify poor treatment and increasing workloads. Despite some hardworking and dedicated individuals at Reibus, they are continuously overshadowed as the company hires expensive, big-name leaders with little expertise, pushing the real talent lower on the totem pole.

Pros

There were/are a lot of high quality people at Reibus who care about being great teammates.

Cons

After hiring about 100 people over the last year, Reibus unprofitable business model has caught up with them and now they’re laying off employees every day with more to come! All this from a company where the CEO bragged about how layoffs wouldn’t happen at Reibus because they had sustainable growth and years of runway with their capital. Reibus only has such great Glassdoor reviews because in your first week there they have you write a glowing one for them. Don’t be fooled.

Poor attempts to reset the business

Pros

There are still a few good people left.

Cons

The Board continues to make critical errors and are not moving in a good direction. I think the runway for the company is very short. Reibus is a steel brokerage not a tech company, period. I have talked to executives in the industry who have described the new CEO as the ‘nail in the coffin’ for Reibus. The decision to hire him shows a lack of understanding in the business. Certain leaders who have been recently elevated are part of the problem and are too self serving to play a role in the solution. The Board has had such limited contact with management that they rely on the wrong people. This is already causing problems. The sales team has more defections on the way. The instability is making all of our jobs harder than it should be. I know reps that are ‘double-dipping’, basically getting commission with other companies until they are downsized by Reibus. Who can blame them? A lot of talented people have left and we are left to explain to our accounts what is going on. They are not buying our explanations and are happy we are failing.

Reibus Response

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. Our new CEO was announced in November and his solid reputation, proven track record, and strong tech experience are important to Reibus. His selection reflects our push to return Reibus to its core mission of using technology to solve engrained problems in the metals industry. Our investors delivered this news to the whole company in person, and we heard first-hand that they believe in the future of Reibus and are willing to continue to support our growth. We recognize that industry expertise is also vital to our success, which is why we are thrilled to have brought Chris Shipp back to the company as our President. The success of Reibus depends on our people and on our tech. We’re much more than a steel brokerage; we’re the leading marketplace platform in the metals industry, and the only one offering the crucial benefits of anonymity and independence. When people care they share; I welcome a conversation and invite you to further share your concerns and ideas for improvement. If you have thoughts on how we can be better, please contact me or use our anonymous feedback channel, Your Voice. John Blount, Co-Founder and Chief Administrative Officer
