Pros

They have good starting wages, if you don't plan to stay for long go in for the starting wage. The people I worked with were fantastic, it was more the way the company was run and the owners/headquarters operations. Recently got a new manager that seems to know what their doing so things are moving a bit smoother.

Cons

Extremely lengthy interviewing process and make you take a background check. They treat employees like thieves and make each front end worker double check and triple check money counts to make sure there is no stealing. They forced me to sign binding contracts that outlines my responsibilities and a short time frame (1 shift) to achieve the responsibilities and then made me write what I should receive as a reward and what I should get as a punishment if I did not succeed. Chose to release me without notice at 3 in the morning. Refusal to release RoT report when requested. Do not enforce food safe procedures for bakers. Do not enforce 1st in 1st out for bakers. Equipment goes uncleaned for long period of time. Very odd paid periods (the 7th day of each month and 27th day) which makes it very hard to pay bills. Strictly enforced terminology such as "find a better way" and "admire people" but very few member of head office follow these procedures. Cut shifts short in the middle of shifts so employees do not get full payment. Very poor communications. Do not take suggestions well and do not listen to staff members when complaints/requests are made. Extremely lazy head staff member who will not lift a finger to help in the store. (Wont even help stock the cooler, just tell the front end workers when they are very busy with customers to do things). Was promised a lot of things at the beginning of employment which was later revoked. Told "there is no chance for raise" 6 months into the job when I was told there was a chance for raise.

Pros

Opportunity to learn from various aspects of a rapidly growing (and thus changing) growth business. Best education I could have ever invested in. Owners are great people; very progressive. Extremely focused and metric-driven business where slack is noticed very quickly. That being said, the culture retains a lot of autonomy. Also have seen the company invest in education at all levels more so than any of my prior work experiences. All in all, you'd have to dangle a very big carrot to get me to leave under current conditions.

Cons

Early stage startup business that needs to preserve capital, so there is definitely a notable salary discount relative to market for the same level of experience. That being said, similar levels of positions in larger companies wouldn't provide nearly as much latitude. Also, there are a few communication challenges that we struggle through, but not any worse than other work environments I've been in.

Pros

50% employee discount on all items, 100% discounts on bagels with cream cheese for lunch.

Cons

Poor Communication. False promises made in interviews. Extremely long, intrusive interview process, consisting of four hiring interviews and an exit interview upon quitting. All head office and upper management are devoted to Landmark training. Very cult-like; they have all employees fill out a Rosemary Rocksalt-English dictionary and speak in constant jargon. Poor treatment of employees, fired employees receive no notice. No opportunity for growth, despite promises. Always being watched and tested, unawares. Tip jar was taken away without notice and replaced with donation jar for 7 months, until enough customers and employees complained. They tell you that you must believe that you are cultivating a better world, but you're selling overpriced bagels.
