Absolute incompetence

Pros

There are no pros whatsoever. None.

Cons

Ruler Foods is a business absolutely overrun by ignorance and gross incompetence, stemming from the top with upper management. Unless you're happy being an underpaid, minimum wage slave. Don't work here. The pay isn't competitive. Hours are inconsistent and scheduling is erratic. No one is ever grateful. This job is a waste of your time and energy. They will work you right under full time and refuse to give you benefits

Pros

Ruler Foods has a ton of potential, and is having a ton of energy, investment and resources poured into it from Kroger. There is a lot of opportunity to move up into a Store Manager role quickly. The Ruler Foods format is experiencing a remodel phase currently, which is exciting and is indicative of a growing company looking to do bigger and better things in the future. During my time at Ruler Foods (4 years), I was given a ton of opportunity to learn new roles, leadership skills, travel and much more. New presidential leadership has pushed the envelope, and her efforts in the last 18 months have pushed the entire team to streamline operations and reduce expenses to make this a viable format for Kroger to compete in the same space as ALDI and Save-a-lot.

Cons

Unfortunately, with growth comes growing pains. There has been a tremendous amount of change in the last 2 years. Some has been for the better as mentioned above, while some has not. The amount of turnover and lack of support to address the issue has been an on-going issue. The culture has taken a turn for the worse, and while leadership needs to drive for results the people element has gotten lost. Lastly, the base pay needs to be addressed as there are serious gaps in compensation with direct competitors.

Pros

If you don't like spending time with your family this is the place to be. If you hate having a life outside of work, fulfill your dream and work here. You'll get to stay in that same store 16-20 hours a day and close to a 100 hours a week. You'll have all of your "work friends " call you during your small amount of time off because another hourly person quit because everyone but yourself and the assistant is part time. This means you get the luxury of still working while you are home. But don't worry about blowing up your payroll budget because even though you work so much, with little or no breaks, you get paid the same as if you only work the "required 50 hours". And if you're ever worried about not being motivated, one of your twenty corporate bosses will be in your store almost everyday to let you know how easily you can be fired and that you should work harder. It will remind you of the movie Office Space for sure.

Cons

I had to buy new pants because I lost 50 pounds in a month in a half because I only ate one meal a day.
