red flags!

Pros

Economically stable. Pockets of really great people.

Cons

Senior leadership stagnated for 20+ years, culturally, technologically, and creatively. Temper tantrums across the senior leadership contribute to a culture of secrecy or 'don't let Dad know' policies. They burnt through three good visualization people in four years under the leadership of a guy with no portfolio and no expertise. Comments about the marketing department on Glassdoor are well founded. They also burnt through two good people from the same position in the same year. Everyone responsible was promoted two years later. It's a bastion of old school corporate white guy entitlement. Other Glassdoor comments about the architecture management are completely valid. There's a sore lack of integrity. It's unfortunate because there are so many good people there who deserve so much better. The employee retention for the under 40 crowd is dismal. SMMA typically understaffs and underpays.

Disappointing experience: lack of support and growth opportunities

Pros

Some co workers were helpful, mostly I learned what to avoid in the future

Cons

1. You're Treated Like a Number: Employees are assigned to projects with no input or discussion. Often, you only discover you're part of a team when you're added to a meeting invite. There’s no introduction to the design or overall project scope, leaving you disconnected and disempowered. Lack of Engagement and Ownership: Team sizes are excessively large, making it easy to feel like just another name on a call. You’re expected to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with conflicting deadlines and meetings, leaving no room for true ownership or contribution. Non-Existent Technical Support: The firm’s technical infrastructure is severely lacking. Revit templates and libraries are practically empty, forcing employees to copy from previous projects without any guidance. As a new hire, it’s almost impossible to know where to find resources or how to get up to speed. Absence of Mentorship and Leadership Support: There is no real mentorship or guidance from supervisors, and when concerns are raised, they are brushed aside. HR and management say what’s necessary in the moment but do nothing to address the issues long-term. Lack of Diversity in Leadership: While there are women on the board, the leadership is overwhelmingly white. As an Asian woman, I felt I was pigeonholed into support roles and not considered for leadership opportunities. Despite the company’s outwardly progressive values, stereotyping and ignorance remain deeply embedded in the leadership culture.

DO NOT JOIN THE MARKETING TEAM

Pros

Working with individuals in other departments other than Marketing was amazing. But Marketing department, there is a reason half of the team quits every year from the department.

Cons

A passive aggressive, micro-managing manager that only got her position because she was going to quit. Awful to work with, attitude for no reason and brought in outside emotions very easily into work and projected onto others. And a director; who promises false growth, almost never actually working, and apparently still stuck in his college sport days. Do not work for this marketing team!
