Pros

Free eye glasses. That was really it for me.

Cons

Scheduling sucks. The woman they had doing it when I was there didn’t know what she was doing and only had the job because of familial ties. I’m sure she’s still there. She constantly messed up the schedule and gave late notices for you to be at another location. That’s the other thing. Having to work at different locations is absolutely ridiculous and having to constantly be on standby for a company that really doesn’t care about you. Don’t dare be a minute late or it’s a write up. Don’t dare have health issues and doctors appointments or something tragic happen because they will hound you for proof of everything when you’re going through the worst time in your life and not care one bit. The workplace environment is awful because it’s like one big clique. Anyone who’s higher up than you treats you like you are below them in more ways than just job description. They’ll advantage of you if you are the type of person who has a hard time sticking up for yourself. Nice people cannot work for this company because they will walk all over you. And somehow most of the patients are the nastiest and meanest people to ever walk the planet. And they can talk to you however they want because this company wants their money so bad. Everything is way over priced. They straight up rip people off and don’t care. The whole company is a joke. I cried before coming to work each day because I was belittled and embarrassed everyday even though I did everything in that office.oh, and god forbid you’re in a location that isn’t super busy because it’s basically the middle of no where. If people no show or you don’t fill the schedule, they will make you feel like it’s your fault and tell you to do better. Don’t get me started on the insanely stupid “receptionist bonus” it’s absolutely bogus and unreachable at a slow office. I wouldn’t recommend even my worst enemy to work here. Worst 2 years of my life.

Pros

I learned refraction. I worked with digital optometrics.

Cons

They lied to recruit me about the hours I was required to work. The insurance is over 300.00 a WEEK for myself and one child. They worked me for three positions and paid me for one. They illegally canceled my paycheck. One incompetent person does your staff scheduling another incompetent person does your Doctor scheduling a third in incompetent person buys frames that don’t work with the insurance plans that you take and everyone gets mad at you for their poor decisions and the company expects you to put up with it! Your DM isn’t “responsible” for your schedule or your time off.. some incompetent woman in Michigan was. She actually scheduled me as two people the manager and the optometric technician, six days a week. For over two months! So incredibly frustrating and stressful.

Pros

The Union and union benefits. The health package is great and the only decent thing about working here. I liked being in a union for this reason.

Cons

Managers will berate you and make you feel stupid, you will be treated worse by patients than you will by customers working in a bar, calling insurances is tedious, paid only $15/hr when I worked there (not sure if it changed) and the rest of your pay is commission only. Commission wasn’t for me because it felt weird trying to upsell people in healthcare. This company makes you book Medicaid patients out far in advance but when a patient with better insurance calls they’ll get you in next week. Advice to anyone who is currently on Medicaid- go to Henry Ford Optimeyes instead. We had a patient get violent and had to let him back in which was insane. The company prides itself on giving in to this mistreatment. If you’re new you will have to travel to EVERY LOCATION in your district, sometimes 40 minutes away, on a moments notice. Sometimes you’ll be scheduled there, sometimes they’ll tell you that morning, sometimes literally in the middle of the workday you have to leave and drive to another store. Only positive about that was my location was the worst of the worst. If you click in at 9:01 even once it’s a write up, if it’s from traveling they make you “dispute it”. This company sucks.
