Pros

Neat product that is unique in the space Good pay for the industry Many great colleagues on various teams

Cons

Session AI operates as a single-product company, which limits its ability to upsell or diversify revenue streams. The product’s high cost can make it challenging for some customers to achieve a satisfactory return on investment (ROI), potentially impacting long-term customer satisfaction and retention. The company culture at Session AI is characterized by a pervasive CYA mentality, where finger-pointing and blame-shifting are more common than collaborative problem-solving. Issues with customers are often highlighted in weekly meetings with the CEO, creating a high-pressure environment where individuals feel publicly scrutinized, regardless of their efforts or results. This approach not only undermines team morale, but also diminishes self-confidence, as even resolved issues are met with criticism regarding speed and methodology. The CEO’s lack of trust in the team is palpable, leading to an exhausting work environment. The company’s approach to praise and critique is also problematic: public praise is rare, while public criticism is frequent. Instead of focusing on strategic growth or high-level planning, the CEO appears more interested in finding scapegoats for any company shortcomings. Significant changes at the top may be necessary to shift this dynamic. In the summer of 2024, the company underwent another round of layoffs, with no severance provided to those affected. While some employees were reassigned to different roles within the company, others faced abrupt termination. The layoffs were never acknowledged in company-wide meetings, reflecting a troubling lack of transparency and disregard for employee welfare. Despite being in operation for over a decade, Session AI continues to present itself as a startup. The company does not offer the typical benefits associated with startups, such as significant growth opportunities or a dynamic work environment. There remains only one core product, with no notable innovation or expansion. While the product itself addresses a genuine need, the leadership’s inability to drive the company forward is a significant concern.

Pros

The technology is really cool, and in a space (ecommerce) that desperately needs help optimizing their marketing spend. If applied properly, it has the potential to be a game-changer.

Cons

Executive leadership does not know how to run a company. Culture absolutely sucks, as every customer issue is met with a hair-on-fire demands by executive leadership. This "yes-man" culture prevents any meaningful action, discussion or even a willingness to truly understand how to better provide value to their customers. The CEO is continuously looking for the next "throat to choke" and a rock star one day can be fired the next - there is no employee loyalty. The turnover at the non-founder executive level is horrible. 3 CROs, 4 people in charge of delivery, 3 CMOs in last 3 years or so.
