A Toxic Wasteland of Mismanagement

Pros

The only pro to working at Siena AI is the opportunity to add "survivor" to your resume. If you can endure the relentless chaos and disrespect, you'll develop a resilience that can withstand any future workplace challenge.

Cons

Siena AI is a masterclass in how not to run a company. The founders, Andrei and Lisa, are young, unprofessional, and completely out of their depth. Their disregard for their employees is appalling. The company suffers from a serious retention problem, directly linked to the toxic leadership. The company's mismanagement is evident in every aspect of its operations. Unrealistic expectations, micromanagement, and a complete lack of communication are the norm. The founders' habit of apologizing without taking meaningful action is infuriating. Constant shifting of priorities and disregard for employee feedback create a chaotic and unproductive work environment. Meetings are often scheduled at inconvenient times, demonstrating a lack of respect for employees. Customer feedback is ignored, leading to high churn rates and increased workload for frontline staff. The high employee turnover is a direct result of the founders' mismanagement and toxic culture. Beyond that, the company culture is one of fear and intimidation. Employees are constantly walking on eggshells, afraid to speak up or offer suggestions. The founders' favoritism is blatant, creating a toxic environment of competition and resentment. There is no sense of team spirit or collaboration; instead, it's every employee for themselves. Additionally, the company's financial management is questionable. Resources are wasted on frivolous projects while essential departments are underfunded. The lack of a clear company vision and strategy is evident in the constant pivoting and lack of focus. The overall atmosphere is one of uncertainty and instability, making it impossible to build a fulfilling career at Siena AI.

Innovative Vision Undermined by Leadership Immaturity

Pros

- Significant amount of freedom and excitement, particularly for those passionate about innovative solutions. - The company assigns large responsibilities even to new team members, providing a unique opportunity to achieve substantial milestones with minimal resources if you're resourceful. - The industry itself is fascinating, and being part of a company at this early stage provides ample opportunities to create groundbreaking solutions quickly, bringing a community of early adopters along for the ride.

Cons

- The maturity level of senior leaders significantly affects the overall health of the company. The employee experience can be challenging due to the founders' lack of experience in managing high-functioning teams, often resorting to a command-and-control management style which diminishes employee motivation and happiness. - Andrei, the founder, is highly motivated and passionate with the potential to achieve great things, but his stubbornness and disregard for others' opinions can lead to oversight of critical issues inherent in a 100% remote global company. - There are significant discrepancies among employees (compensation, oversight, recognition), with some in similar positions earning vastly different amounts due to their location, indicating a need for better control and rationalization in team structure, growth opportunities, and compensation. - There appears to be a general lack of willingness to change or improve management style, even after many employees have left for the reasons mentioned. Despite this turnover, there has not been substantial change in leadership style, as confirmed by current employees I've stayed in touch with since leaving months ago.
