Pros

Business casual clothing most days and once a week they buy you lunch of an employees choosing.

Cons

They are small family companies. The Rockville, MD owner would tell us when she thought we should be done with lunch (lunch was only a half hour max), she would not allow you to leave for lunch, when there was a snow day employees would have to sleep in the office to ensure that everyone would be there the next day, did not allow time off for doctor visits or vacation. They dont allow you to have insurance for 3 months and when you do, they tell you that is your raise. Worst of all, she micro manages the employees. If you dont have your email up on the screen in a specific way, she will take the computer away from you.

Pros

They stay on top of cutting edge technology. Its a fun fast paced environment. You never know what will come in the door next. Everyone works hard and carries their own weight.

Cons

Its a franchise and the one I worked for was family owned. The owners bring their family dynamics and issues into the work place. When they are not happy everyone knows it. Not much opportunity for advancement. Limited vacation days.

Pros

You can pay your bills. If you have no experience, they will hire you. The health benefits are pretty good.

Cons

At Signs By Tomorrow, you are not a 'member of the family,' you are a number. They have basically no loyalty to their employees what so ever. I was the only employee at the store and they still treated me like a jerk. They ask the impossible. Other graphic designer will understand this--working for them is like being a chef and the owners of the restaurant you work at want you to cook a filet mignon steak well done in 5 minutes. Guess what. It's just not happening. But because they don't know anything, they blame you for not 'doing your job.' Also when hired they said in 90 day we'll have a salary review. Instead of 90 days, it was six months and they gave me an insulting raise. The position was originally supposed to be salaried but they said they don't consider give salaries until at least a year has passed. Was hired with possibility of bonuses but when the sales goals were met, the bonuses were retracted. They have you working with some dangerous chemicals without protection. And climbing broken ladders.
