Smashing it - Skillsoft's transformation

Pros

Modern forward thinking company: Skillsoft has dominated the learning space for decades and while complacency and old thinking eroded market share in a number of preceding years, the recent transformation illustrates that the company understands what works and will continue to dominate, with no desire to lose the podium position. Flexible working hours: Skillsoft is a global company with 100s of virtual offices crossing most time zones. Virtual collaboration is the key to staying informed and sharing ideas, so while your working hours inevitably expand, you are empowered to manage your own schedule. You are held accountable for outcomes not rigid-clock in and clock-out schedules.

Cons

Virtual offices: Working in a virtual office is not uncommon for sales professionals and it certainly makes for a more productive environment, however, finding time to connect with colleague’s f2f and share war stories or socialize in general is something you need to make a conscious effort to do regularly.

Vibrant & Positive Culture

Pros

This company is the first I've been employed in where the culture is warm, positive, supporting. Definitely encourages innovation and growth. Many in the company work on a flexible schedule scheme, allowing us to balance personal commitments while not neglecting duties at the corporate level. The management does everything to reward and contribute to the employees whom they believe are the most important assets to their clients. In essence, the company takes very good care of its thousands of employees.

Cons

The downside I can see is complacency that could crept in to the progress in the company the past 20 odd years. With the IT industry rapidly evolving, new ways and methods of doing things must be explored and the natural human instinct to do things the same-ol' way just wouldn't cut it. Also, many on flexible work arrangements could grapple with "isolation" issues when working remotely. Humans are after all, social. The lack of communication could result in what we call "cabin fever".
