      Terrible place. Felt racism there.

      Pros

      Good salary Good on CV

      Cons

When asked to apply for a more senior position I was told to my face I was not good enough. A girl who was a different race who had worked for one week in my position at another law firm was given the job I had wanted. Was clear that all those who got promoted or in senior positions were all of the same race. Felt like I was not heard. Was managed poorly. My manager pawned us off to other members of staff as she didn’t want to manage us.

      Pros

Reputation, top clients, good quality of work, v smart people. The reputation is second to none and people are very bright.

      Cons

Stuffiness, partners v old fashioned, won't listen to new ideas, credit taken for work by partners while associates sometimes pushed to background, a real smugness about Slaughters compared to other firms. The pay is also poor as well. Plus--until recently associates weren't given website profiles. There is a real cultural divide among born and raised SM people (who trained from the beginning) and people who lateral in--the born and raised have a much more cult-like mentality, and the outsiders, who don't conform, stand out.
