Pros

Lower-level employees with no decision-making power are a delight to work with

Cons

It's clear there are fake reviews being posted to save the ratings, but what a laughable attempt because this ship has clearly sunk. Let me start by saying that on a baseline level, HR can't do their jobs to save themselves. Not only did they "accidentally" tell a benefits provider that I was terminated (therefore I no longer had access to said benefit, and I had to find it out myself after some digging), I learned that I wasn't being paid equitably based on experience, location, or education level (so if they're even hiring remote anymore, beware...also the pay is severely under market). If you are remote, you are ostracized and it took almost a year for management to include remote workers in things like lunch stipends when the in-person teams were treated to lunches and time off mid-day. Middle management was a nightmare, where they kept overpromising and underdelivering, giving false timelines (including about commission payouts), and expecting you to do the work of 2-3 people as teams shrunk post-layoffs. Middle management also rejected any feedback, and didn't believe there was ever any room for improvement. When team morale was low, they hosted team virtual team bonding games to show "appreciation," which made it clear they were completely out of touch with what the employees really wanted. No true leadership is demonstrated at this organization, and it's clear it's very much not "people first" but "profit first." Don't bother with this company, save yourself the toxicity and trouble.

Pros

Unlimited PTO (for now) Remote (for now) Great colleagues

Cons

The entire executive team has lost their minds, feeding the entire staff one lie after another for the last 3 years, starting with repeatedly telling us we’d never have to return to office. Now they’re forcing everyone within a 75-min commute time (one way) to RTO. They actually think 2.5 hours a day of commuting is reasonable for a company that hasn’t given anyone a meaningful pay increase in 2 years. This is the best they could come up with after a massive pushback when they first made the RTO announcement in June. Took them until August to give us more info. After the first round of layoffs in spring 2022, we were assured there wouldn’t be more. Cut to winter, there’s another round. And yet another round just this week. The boldly terrible RTO plan seems like a calculated move to offload as many employees/salaries as possible without giving people the benefit of a severance package. Shady deals to encourage employees to sell our stock options for practically nothing disguised as “proof of growth.” We used to take our core values very seriously. Now they’re nonexistent. Nobody’s happy. Everyone is anxious and miserable and looking for jobs elsewhere.

Pros

Smarsh used to be a fantastic place to work and grow! Previously, Smarsh was a rare find - collaborative culture, putting people first, open and honest communication, and doing the right thing for our customers and colleagues. Compensation and benefits were always just average, but it was worth staying because I was happy and passionate about my work, my direct management, and executive leadership.

Cons

The current c-staff are not good stewards of the company or focused on the long-term health of Smarsh. They will do whatever it takes to achieve the gross margin target to position the company to sell in the next few years. While Smarsh has gone through many acquisitions and changes in the past, Smarsh culture and long term success was always put at the forefront. Today, that is no longer the focus. While I understand its just business, it is heartbreaking to see the dramatic change. These goals could have been achieved while maintaining Smarsh's vitality. RIP Smarsh.
