Everything is not what it seems

Pros

Culture: relaxed and the company strives for inclusion, lots of camaraderie Flexibility: wfh, relaxed dress code Holding company owned: meant they had investment to hire and to offer insurance and 401k. If you're a developer, this seems to be a great place. Very little engineer turnover in the short history.

Cons

CSIG (the holding company mentioned earlier) out of Brighton, MI. Like many holding company to subsidiary relationships, they require or "strongly suggest" the use of their shared services. Those mandates have made it more difficult collecting leads (MKT) and payments (AR). Their game is long term care facilities, and an agency that does web development is universally different and requires a quicker pivot for business and for internal processes. They have brought a more corporate feel to the agency, which is inevitable. That includes the classic and very "corporate" norm of talking out both sides of their mouth. We were interviewing people with the impression someone could be hired and then 20% of the company was cut about a week or 2 after those interviews. Missed deadlines: Client deliverables rarely finish on time, which means everyone is always stressed. It's not just a week or but 2 and 3+ times longer than originally scoped. Even understanding clients get frustrated when this happens. We were advertising a 4 week MVP build for a while. That just doesn't fly with customers. They either don't understand what that means or the first release has serious problems on even basic functionality. Features sold to any client: There were features promised to clients that were outside of the ability of some of the devs. Or, those features would take significantly longer to complete than what the original deadlines suggested. Management: SnapMobile: If you're not a developer you have very little to no management, and lack direction both in company vision and day to day protocol. CSIG: the magic formula to build a business needs tweaking here. Culturally, it's obvious the 2 companies are fundamentally different. CSIG is bro-city while SnapMobile is diverse and quite frankly, more "woke".

Pros

Illusion of culture. Empty promises that seem real for a bit. Ability to wfh and flex hours. Well-meaning CEO.

Cons

The company and concept doesn’t seem viable. At least not the way it’s executed. Products are delivered relatively fast and for cheap, which means they are buggy, have bare bones functionality, and are built by very junior engineers with no senior leadership. Jealousy and cattiness from leadership. Lots of obvious insecurities and vendettas that require some serious counseling to work through. The culture is a facade driven by a couple of execs with little personality. One is well-meaning. Now owned by an investment firm that runs a bunch of senior living homes. The company seems to have been founded with good intentions, but it’s nothing more than a place to build your resume if you can’t find something else in your field.

Pros

Friendly environment and a lot to learn

Cons

Unorganized at management level and value sales people more than any other department like engineering. Puts pressure on engineers without having a clear plan for them.
