Pros

Nice athletic facilities due to the schools emphasis on sports and athletics. Starbucks and Dunking Donuts on Campus so that you can make it through the hell-ish work day.

Cons

The school takes advantage of faculty members by forcing them to perform 7 jobs in one without receiving any gratitude or recognition for work performed. Tenured faculty do nothing while non-tenured faculty have to pick up all their slack. Raises and promotions are nonexistent. Awful benefits and pay is crap. The school puts a lot of emphasis on student athletics so do not expect much in terms of academic achievement from students. There is no push for research or publications by professors. They actually steer you away from research so as to have all focus be on student hand-holding. Assistant Professors disappear after the first year because of the awful work life balance and slave labor environment. Tenured faculty members remain there because they have no other options after not having done any research or publications. I would not even recommend my worst enemy to accept a job at Springfield College.

Pros

- Generous amount of time off (22 days, plus a week between Christmas and New Year's) - Great mission, great students - Some of the people who work in the "lower ranks" (aka not top-level managers) are truly smart, talented, and inspiring

Cons

- Mission of the college (giving back to others) is touted, but not put into practice - Little room for growth or professional development - "Merit-based" raises do not exist. Employees are given an annual 2% "cost of living" wage. However, upper management sees raises of more than 2% each year. Some also receive bonuses and are reimbursed for things such as their cars and cell phones. - Wages are not competitive at all, despite every single member of upper management or "PLT" (yes, they gave themselves a nickname) making more than six figures. It is well-known that SC does not pay well, especially for those early in their career, and they are currently undergoing a “compensation study”—the first in 20 years—because the situation is so dire. Most employees make less than $50,000. Many SC job searches come back as “failed” because the compensation is too low. - Often suffers from budget mismanagement - Good work often goes unacknowledged or rewarded - Managers are not well-trained but often get promoted/receive raises - Suffers from massive administrative bloat
