Pros

None (company is far too impressed with “Wolf of Wall Street) Ridiculous company culture that prides itself in boiler room mentality.

Cons

• Work/Life Balance doesn’t exist (Stuck in the dinosaur ages where you are slave to the commute) Working from home is unheard of unless you are a top biller (unreasonable and unrealistic)! • Managers have zero finesse/people skills and resort to bullying employees & fear tactics. • Excessive Micromanagement which kills creativity and drive. • Salary bands are low - no excuse for underpaying staff and no recognition/compensation for overtime. • Staff turnover is appalling (new faces constantly without any visible increase in work force) due to toxic work culture and expectations. • Equality & Diversity is a sham. • Simply put, if your young, desperate and hungry there’s no problem, but if you happen to have a personal life/family commitments this is not the place for you. • No protocol in place to ensure well-being of staff. Generic company communication sent via Mail-shot.

Thank you for your feedback, I will be sure to raise your comments to our Senior Management team. We welcome constructive feedback, it allows us to make continued improvements. With regards to your comments about work-life balance and homeworking, The months prior to the COVID outbreak, saw the rollout of our work from home policy. So far it has been greatly received and has allowed employees to reduce the long commute and spend valuable time doing more of what makes them happy outside of work. Of course, COVID has made this more of a permanent fixture than we anticipated, but we continue to adapt during these times. All employees are eligible to work from home one day a week minimum, regardless of job title. In some departments there is the opportunity to increase this allowance and whilst certain principles’ must be demonstrated for this benefit, it is definitely available to all. To address your comment about low salary bands, this is reviewed on an ongoing basis to ensure we are aligned with others in the sector. At the end of 2020, we decided to increase salaries, and as a result 4 of our sales salary bands have received an increase. We also have a very competitive commission structure that I would argue counts towards the compensation you mentioned is missing. Alongside commission, we have numerous recognition initiatives in place, including monthly lunch clubs and awards, quarterly holiday incentives, and a company car scheme. Success is always celebrated at Square One! Employee wellbeing is important to us and we have many benefits in place to reflect this. Our wellbeing scheme is led by employee feedback and we have used focus groups to get a better understanding of what is important to employees and shape our benefits accordingly. These include a free 24-hour counselling service, free gym membership, private healthcare, extended 90-minute lunches for gym-goers twice a week and weekly 1-1 wellbeing sessions guided by a member of HR, to name but a few…The generic email communications you are referring to act as gentle reminders to employees who are adjusting to working from home full time and to remind them of the resources available whilst navigating through this tricky period. Due to the often sensitive nature of the subject, we will only discuss more tailored individual approaches once the employee is comfortable and happy to talk privately. This is often stimulated by the email reminders that you refer to. We report monthly on our staff turnover to ensure it sits within a reasonable company expectation. COVID has altered our 2020 hiring plans so I would disagree with your comments about new faces appearing constantly, hopefully in 2021 that will be the case, as we continue to look to bring fresh talent to Square One. I would be happy to chat over this in more detail, please feel free to reach out to the HR team directly.
