Pros

It's definitely an exciting time to work for St. Camillus as they ramp up construction of a few new buildings on campus. Most of the existing buildings are also in pretty good shape and well-maintained, which says a lot in the nursing business.

Cons

The high turnover rate is definitely a negative aspect of working there. When I started working for St. Camillus in 2012, it was great and everyone was so friendly. You couldn't walk down the hall without family or staff saying hello. When I left a few months ago, the turnover rate had really taken its toll on the attitude on campus. I worked in the skilled unit and for a while the turnover was over 30% overall, and more than 50% for nurses. In my two and a half years there, most of the staff I worked with had left by the time I left. The new staff that came in just don't measure up. Gossiping is always an issue at nursing facilities, but here it some people took it to a new level. With the involvement of the Order of St. Camillus in the facility, employees who are not Catholic are certainly looked at differently from those who are. I never felt comfortable enough to be honest about my sexuality while working here, instead I lied for two and a half years. I saw my friend struggle with coworkers after they found out he was gay; he ended up transferring to a different unit. Single moms were also looked at differently from Catholic staff. This dynamic really took joy away from work.

Pros

I got a paycheck and that's about it.

Cons

Everything! They are disorganized, racist and don't have a lot of training (even though they say they do). Management talks behind people's backs. I was told they had a 39% turnover rate from someone in HR that told me, I shouldn't know this but she's gonna tell me anyways. They are supposed to be a religious organization but act far from it. They think they know what they are doing but they don't!

Pros

Good pay and benefits for employees.

Cons

Supervisors need training. They are unorganized & lack management skills. Always short staffed. Turnover is high. Morale is low.

St. Camillus Response

Thank you for sharing your feedback. One of our dining services areas recently had a change in management staff. We're confident that this change has placed a very knowledgeable professional, with many years’ experience, into a leadership role in this area. With regard to supervisor training, we have planned and just announced a new training series launching this summer for all our management staff. You recommend having an employee retention goal; in fact, retention is one of our key organization goals this year, and we’re very pleased to see employee retention statistics are on the rise in 2019!
