Fun company, unclear future.

Pros

Benifits: health, dental, and others. Catered lunches. Snacks. Massages.

Cons

NO AIR CONDITIONING!!! The studio was large but cramped and extremely hot. Too many dogs, stepping in dog poop got old fast. Politics!! Getting anything done requires enduring endless politics. Some employees were underqualified but stayed on because of political reasons and connections to founders. One refused to show up to work for weeks. Another deleted an entire Google drive and was never penalized.

Survios Response

Hello! Thank you for reviewing the company. Your constructive feedback is greatly appreciated and critically important as we continue to build forward into the future. Our goal at Survios is always to put employees first and foster a fun, innovative, safe, and collaborative environment, while we are building the most immersive, high-quality content out there in the VR market. RE: Air Conditioning, that has now been resolved. You spoke, we listened! The building is now fully air-conditioned. RE: Dogs. We have enacted stricter policies for dog owners to limit the distractions to the office which include no dogs in the office on Wednesdays, restricted play times, a doggie restroom area, and more accountability for pet owners. Thus in turn still allowing the dog owners to enjoy the perk of having their loved ones around and at the same time respecting others in the office that are not dog owners. RE: Politics and Upper Management. This is something that we have worked hard on and iterated on over the past year. The studio has focused on being more transparent and having an open door policy with upper management as well as being able to address your concerns in monthly town halls. Seth (CEO) & Max (COO) have been extremely visible and involved with the company. Would love to hear your ideas on how we could do this better. There is always room for improvement!

Bad Business Strategy Leads to Mistrust/Frustration

Pros

Game devs are fantastic and maintain what they can of the culture of the company; these teams are collaborative, optimistic, and talented.

Cons

As other reviewers have mentioned, Survios suffers from disconnected and clueless business leadership that results in shocks to its workforce (employees leaving, layoffs, roles unfilled). Teams often feel disaffected and frustrated due to high turnover. Exec team wavers on strategy frequently (which can lead to whiplash) and instead of trusting the folks actually building/selling the product, execs cater to the whims of Survios's investors. Additionally, rather than focusing on building a strong product catered to gamers/end consumers, they spend valuable resources to make sub-par and poorly reviewed games in an attempt keep the company afloat - this lack of vision swapping long-term success for short-term gain destroys any trust in the business leaders at the company.

Poor Exec team, financial projection and employee management

Pros

- The actual game devs, content creators & producers are very passionate and talented - The people making the games want the best for their peers and the players - HR team worked hard to make it a fun and inclusive place, despite lack of diversity

Cons

- The Exec team does an extremely poor job of financial forecasting - The Exec team doesn't listen to the devs/creators when they point out risks and red flags - The Exec team has unrealistic expectations of how games are made and what it takes to make high level games. - 37 people were recently laid off because the studio severely mismanaged its money and resources; no other reason. - It is a studio that repeats its mistakes and doesn't learn - It's a business first; knowledge of how to run a studio comes second - Lack of transparency and truth from C-suite team
