Arrived with hope, left only with disappointment.

Pros

Beautiful aesthetic, great office, talented team, and the veneer of a healthy culture.

Cons

Swell Investing ultimately fails due its own hubris. An unrivaled arrogance runs riot through Swells broken culture, so don’t expect to change anything unless you are willing to play the game and get in with the clique. Favoritism trumps hard work and dedication, and its organizational structure works in such a way to keep you at the bottom - it’s semi flat so you’re either a team lead or heading to a dead end. Teams leads are also hungry to soak up any and all credit for your labors. Many of us harbor nothing but disappointment for a company we helped build only to watch it crumble due to its ineffective CEO, poor management choices, and a lack of work ethic. Don’t be fooled by Swell’s veneer, only frustration awaits.

Pros

The company mission extends throughout all aspects of the organization. The culture is vibrant, collaborative and everyone has a voice to shape the company. Swell is very user centric and everyone is encouraged to attend research to empathize with and learn from users (because ultimately everyone is challenged to make the product better). It's growing fast while maintaining a flat org and bringing on curious, creative and hungry people.

Cons

Swell doesn't have its own office space yet and shares it with its developer partner Carbon Five. But they're awesome so that's kind of a pro. While its really cool, I anticipate that there will be growing pains to maintain a flat org.

Pros

The office is nice. Lunch is provided some days.

Cons

Apathetic, lazy, inexperienced, uncaring and ignorant executives lead Swell. Such characteristics result in little to no executed products, disorganization, nasty internal politics and ultimately a failing company. Products developments are gone about at a snails pace due to no direction from c level execs and the chosen product developments are decided on a whim, dependent on what the sole unqualified, inexperienced, and insecure product owner feels like. Many feel that that the hours are flexible and vacation is unlimited, but in reality it's not. Company guidelines set specific pto time, working hours, etc but as leadership is so in effective they fail to hold employees to these expectations.
