Pros

Plenty of opportunities to learn different types of analytical instruments due to the high turn over rate of staff

Cons

-Management do not care about the staff, any issues you have, you may as well talk to a brick wall. Every time an issue is brought forward to them, you'll either get a "we can't do much about that" or "I'll try an do something about it" but the issue will be ongoing and when you question why nothing was done the response is "I don't remember talking to you about that, or I forgot" -The base pay rate is as low as they can pay you, with no chance of pay increase no matter how much time or effort you pour in to the workplace, any senior advancement roles are also low in pay -There is no proper training for any new staff, I've seen a lot of new staff come and go. Management will say that they were not good enough or didn't learn fast enough yet they didn't receive adequate training. Most of the new staff are graduates therefore have no prior lab experience, yet they will be blamed for not learning fast enough once they have been thrown into the deep end. -Extremely poor managament and unorganised, many of the tasks that the manager is responsible for was neglected leading to chaos and leaving the responsiblity of that to the staff to figure out on a daily basis. -Zero work/life balance, you'll be so burnout from working here that at the end of the day you won't want to do anything else

Pros

- You are able to leave early when all of your tests are finished - Able to come in whenever as long as you do your assigned duties - The people there are in the same position as you so they understand your plights - Free parking?

Cons

Unfortunately this is where the pros end, should you ever suffer the fate of working for Symbio Laboratories here are a few things to keep in mind: - The job position you have applied for will not be what you will be doing, You will be expected to do many others things not in your contract or it will be overhauled entirely. - If you have a degree and just want to work as a regular analyst, do not apply here. There is a system in place that forces you to become a senior in training and if you refuse you will be made redundant for the bottom line. There is no third option. - The work here is gruelling; constant changes to the SOP, a 4-day turnaround (Including multi-day tests/counting weekends), minimal training, lack of space for balances with computers (You will have to wait for others to finish) and people in higher positions contradicting each other leaving you to figure out whats what. - It will take a Herculean effort to get Symbio to cough up overtime pay to the point where it is not even worth it Now if the previous points did not deter you, this might... The TTA This stands for Time to Achieve and is an overview of how much time a test takes, this sounds like a great thing right? No, this time is directly compared to your time clocked in and your "efficiency" is calculated from that. Should your efficiency go below a certain percentage you will either have to answer to the manager (or above) or be made redundant. If its just slightly below be ready to receive higher workloads. If you decide to bust your behind and meet those expectations or worse yet exceed the TTA time, that will become your new baseline they expect you to achieve all day everyday. If you raise concerns that a test is taking too long, tough luck sugar you're the slow one. This leads to a situation where if you do not recieve enough work, you are screwed and have to scavenge around for things to do. Just put on some samples that need to be left alone for a couple hours and the other test you would normally do in the meantime has less or no samples? Or all of your testing for the day has about half the samples you would normally get but have to stay the whole day to finish? Guess you're not that efficient and no longer required ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. If these sound ok to you feel free to apply, theres always a position open at Symbio. Always have a plan B in this place and be aware when you're on borrowed time. If you are a fresh graduate, I'm sorry but this is one of the only labs that are willing to hire (Just keep in mind the previous point about seniors in training).
