Pros

Decent pay for routine tasks ($16), ability to rise quickly in the hierarchy without skills due to quick turnover, great mission (in theory)

Cons

Ambiguous rules, insecure management/culture, formal hierarchy based on likability and time rather than skill or intelligence, utilitarian, routine tasks, difficult hours, punishes inquiry, advertises full benefits at hire then only allows part-time

Pros

The youth are great and the mindset that "growth is rooted in relationships" is one that you really do get to see every day.

Cons

There is a significant amount of work related trauma and it gets very heavy. Forget ever being able to call in sick or take time off, that's only for non-front line employees. Some of the programs aren't structured based on evidence based approaches or any current literature. They're not designed to actually help they pretty much leave the youth out to dry and blame in on "holding boundaries" and "building lifeskills" when in reality, they just make people's lives harder. There's NO transparency. The Source is set to be renovated but refuse to provide any communication to staff about what that will look like and what that means for their jobs. All the direct care staff at 1440 were fired without warning and Chase house had to unionize because conditions got so bad over there. Meanwhile leadership keeps claiming this is all due to "staffing" issues and ignores that the high turnover rate is very much their own doing. The direct care staff arent paid enough to live in Boulder and leadership constantly reduces hours or makes cuts meanwhile the people who are on the front lines fighting homelessness are at risk for being homeless themselves. The organization is also facing SEVERAL lawsuits for worker's right's violations because they treat their employees that badly. I would not be shocked if they go bankrupt here soon.

Pros

It was nice to be involved in the community and to have an impact in the lives of people the organization served. The trainings are really great and there’s a lot to help you grow along the way.

Cons

Unprofessional management that was dismissive, cliquey, and unwilling to consider that management makes mistakes. Not understanding of learning opportunities for employees, quick to judge, and ultimately gossip about people without considering there are two sides to a story. One of the program managers who is still there was very unprofessional, negative, cussed a lot, and went above and beyond to ruin my reputation and threatened that she will make sure it’s in my reviews, because of a misunderstanding on her part. She couldn’t accept that she made a mistake. In addition, before this happened, she told me she didn’t think this work was for her and that she was looking to leave, but apparently she decided to stay as it’s been a long time since then.
